So who wants to go with me and cheer for the Chinese/North Koreans/Cubans or whoever they're using as the bad guys now that Soviet Russia has been Gorbachov'd away?

Yeah, saw a preview for this on TV recently. Was having dinner with a friend of mine when it came on, I announced that I thought it looked stupid, he said he thought it looked OK. Then he said "It's just like Afghanistan." Which didn't make sense to me until he explained that the storyline is similar to ordinary kids in Afghanistan/Iraq becoming insurgents against an invasive force (ie the USA).

Which I thought was funny, as this individual is p. much totally apolitical.

They're using North Korea, so that either makes me not want to cheer, or cheer way the fuck more. If I go see it, I'm wearing a hammer sickle shirt, and wearing my communist flag as a cape.

The premise for this film is so laughable that I don't even think I could enjoy it even if it was good.

Most movies have laughable plots.

I'm just hoping there'll be some epic cheesy one-liners. Like when Thor machine guns down a North Korean soldier and then stares at the bullet ridden corpse and says "Your ideology is..." lights cigarette "Full of holes."

Then some asshole internet reviewer can chime in: "Just like this plot!"

Most movies have laughable plots.Yeah but generally the idea is to at least make it halfway plausible

what are things zizek is liable to say about this movie?

Why would they remake a cold war propaganda film after the cold war?

I think it means we're dangerous again.

I never saw the original, but I hope all the protagonists die at the end, so I can be all "At least it had a happy ending" and piss off some of my "friends" on facebook.

wikipedia says that they had originally made it chinese villains and spent a million changing chinese shit to korean stuff after the fact (like writing ect.) so that they could still market it in china. do u think theyr trying to program the young to be down for a future us invasion of n korea?

Won't they be alienating the valuable film circuit in North Korea?! Now they won't be able to show the film in Pyongyang!

I love the original. It's this great 80s cheese. I usually don't like remakes but Josh Peck is in this and I grew up on Drake & Josh.

There should be a whole thread where we can talk about possible one liners in this movie.

As if the first Red Dawn wasn't crammed full of enough bullshit propaganda in the first place, but at least that scenario was plausible..

The idea that North Korea could ever even come close to putting a scratch on the US mainland is just hilarious. I don't know whether to laugh or cry that anyone can sit back and say "Yep, that's a great plot for our movie right there".

But hey, at least the film can be an unintentionally comedic take on what some Americans actually think about the "big bad evil commie North Koreans". Just like the original, eh?

Young women killing "commies" with RPGs. The film will continue the original's proud legacy of being masturbation material for middle aged NRA members everywhere.

That idea of North Korea invading America makes Star Wars seem real.

If it had Josh peck when he was young and funny this film would be a masterpiece.

So they changed it to North Korea and cut out China in post production? *chicken sounds*

Not really as the USSR invasion of the USA made no strategic logic for the USSR when the movie has NATO dissolved and Western Europe run by governments that basically have a non-aggression pact with the USSR. Then you have the USSR air drop a few infantry to terrorize some dinky US town which seem to have zero military value in holding.

Compare this to World in Conflict where the USSR invades northwest USA to open another front in a war against NATO as it experiences difficulty pushing into France and most of the US's forces are concentrated in France holding the Warsaw Pact back, even then USSR's goal is simply to try and force the USA into accepting peace terms favourable to the USSR.

It was supposed to be Chinese but then they put North Koreans instead because China would go mad and perhaps boycott the company.

You've all misunderstood the original movie. It's about an imperialist occupation of a free nation, and the anti-imperialist struggle, waged by a local guerilla influenced by the maoist concept of New Democracy, against the imperial oppressors. Also, Charlie Sheen is a thinly disguised Lenin.

The plot seems incredibly irrational. I've only seen parts of the first film (a long time ago), so I can't really comment on it. Looks like it's done in the same format that movies like Rambo create - chauvinistic patriotism.
