Greetings, I am a very left wing socialist who comes from England, but is 1/4 German.

I hope I can make a lot of new friends here, and we can discuss various topics of interest.

I've been interested in politics since i was little, but have only been seriously in to it for about 4 months now, so I apologise if I'm unfamiliar with some terms etc. Although I admit I'm very left wing, and support socialism I would very much like to know what kind of socialist I am (more specifically. and where I'd sit on the political spectrum. I know various quizzes are available online, but I thought It'd be more accurate to speak to people with actual experience.

If i were to share some of my views, I would be extremely grateful if a fellow comrade, were to read through them and explain and place my beliefs on a political spectrum.

Firstly, I 100% detest the very idea of capitalism, and how it's destructive force has been allowed to let some people suffer, whilst others sit by living a millionaires lifestyle.

I believe in a fairer distribution of wealth, and that all companies, banks, schools etc should be controlled by the state. However, I do believe that some jobs such as doctors, nurses and any health care provider should be paid a slightly higher salary for their expertise. (to compensate for their years of training, and having to deal with blood and other stuff, etc.) This would work because not everybody wants to be a doctor etc and all other jobs would have (more or less) equal distribution of wealth. I also think that the extreme rich should be brutally taxed to provide state healthcare and education.

I think that smoking, hunting (hate cruelty to animals) and alcohol bans should be stricter, but with the exception of violent serious crime such as (murder, child rape, rape Etc.) all authority should be questioned.

I am very anti racist and anti homophobe and live by the philosophy of live and let live.

Everybody should be given the same opportunities to achieve what they want to achieve regardless of ethnic, sexual, or religious background.

I wouldn't say that I was a communist as, I think people should be entitled to own some things i.e ( a house, a car etc), but ALL forms of the economy should be 100% state owned, and things should not be anyway near the price that they are.

The very concept of the working class working to make the business owner rich sickens me to my stomach, and I think this should be abolished.

Finally, I despise any form of monarchy, hereditary privileges, one party systems, dictators, and unelected leaders. I think a revolution should only be used as a last resort ( all peaceful methods should be completely exhausted before it begins, and that during the revolution, violence should be be kept to a bare minimum. NO killing!)

I hope that anybody here could help me with this problem. I'm sorry for any spelling/grammar mistakes. It's quite late here.

Please don't flame me for any of my opinions because even if we don't all see completely eye to eye, we all share one over-all common goal.

PEACE :)

Welcome. :) Although, I don't think you quite understand what socialism is. We don't want anything "state owned".

Also, communists define personal property and private property differently. Your home, car, clothes, etc. are your personal property, while anything that creates goods is private property. Factories, farms, machines, etc. are private property (see: means of production).

The idea of these changes coming without the violent overthrow of the forces of capitalism is a naive one. Owners of capital will defend their interests by any means necessary, as they have made clear in the past.

You sound like some kind of a liberal, but welcome and feel free to ask questions.

hey,

thanks for your reply.

I think I have a good understanding of socialism. I will tell you what I think it is and you're welcome to correct me if I'm wrong but i'd define it as this.

I've simplified everything, just to make it clearer, but prices may be different to real life situations, but the same principles apply.

Example

If somebody works in a factory making cars. They work for 10 hours a day. They earn $10 an hour. Every working day they would take home $100.

let's assume now the factory sells the car for $200. <- in this example the business has made $100 profit.

Under capitalism, the company owner would keep this $100 profit to make themselves richer.

This system is what is destroying society and creating the elite rich and making the rest of society poorer.

Under socialism, the factory would have no boss and would be state run. The worker would still be paid his $100, but, the $100 "profit" would go to the state, and back out in to the system.

This is the economic principle that i believe in, and believe this is what makes me a socialist.

Hello!

all companies, banks, schools etc should be controlled by the state.
I think that smoking, hunting (hate cruelty to animals) and alcohol bans should be stricter.
I think a revolution should only be used as a last resortI don't mean to sound condescending, but you sound neither socialist nor revolutionary. On the contrary, I think you might be a damn lib!

Socialists do not support 'brutal taxing of the rich', you see. This would imply that there is still a capitalist class in power (which would make your goals either impossible or counterintuitive - as is the case in China).
We do not fight for 'social reform' or 'equality of wages' under the bourgeoisie's dining table. We fight for a stateless, classless society, where there is common ownership over the means of production.

Also, I think you (and a whole load of other liberals - not trying to be offensive) misunderstand the concept of private property. Private property does not necessarily apply to things like your toothbrush or your bassoon. It is the ownership of estates and production - the control over the most ridiculous of things. For example, the shipping dock I live nearby is 'private property'. They own the land! None but them! What next, if they can call ownership over land!? Will oceans be privatised? Air? Will we be taxed to breathe? The very concept is ridiculous, and has only existed for a very short period of human history.

Hope to see you further develop your views!

Lol, you dont have to be so aggressive towards new members.

Welcome! You said that you want "fellow comrade to...explain and place my beliefs on a political spectrum". Well, right now, as others said, you are reformist (social democrat) maybe even liberal. But, i assume that you are pretty new to this stuff, and i see you hold usual misconceptions about communism i suggest you to go to the learning sub-forum and read some Marx&Engels to get the basic idea about communism.
I hope you ll become a communist, i became one and only a year ago i had similar views like you.
until then you can be anarchist:D
