in a beret and pea coat, running at a phone box to put up a poster. this is the second time i have seen trotskyists behaving like this, although this guy was quite a bit more aggressive; he definitely thought it was the eve of the revolution.
is this the new paper selling?

I was at family in Islington when the olympic flame was passing through. It was all a little bit 'britannia', but as it was Islington, there was a strong element of local Black/Minority Ethnic culture - dancing, music, food etc.
And there were 3 trots (couldn't make out what party they were from, but they were well-dressed and young enough that i'm sure they must have been students of some trot party) across the road basically throwing some rag paper at passers' by.
I wanted to just run across the road, throw over their stand and be like, you know, what the fuck are you doing? You're so irrelevant it's fucking hilarious.

Were they wearing two or three button suits? This has a direct bearing on whether they are indeed obsolete.

You can often see from a distance of what faction of 'the left' people at demos are a part of. If they're slightly pimpled, long-haired guys in power metal t-shirts they're members of the social-democratic Socialist Party (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Socialist_Party_(Netherlands)) youth. If they're either camo-wearing living billboards waving 10 placards at the same time or semi-hip postgrad students wearing whatever H&M or Forever 21 is putting out this season they're most likely members of the Trotskyist IS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Socialists_(Netherlands)) and if they're anarchists or autonomists they're either wearing black hoodies with crust patches, camo cargo pants and have long dreadlocks and a septum piercing or they wear black skinny jeans northface jackets and sunglasses in November.

I remember going to some sort of Maoist journalists' meeting in the early 90s. They were all wearing identical berets and pissed-off expressions. It was fabulous. Every single question asked of them was answered with a long diatribe on the plight of African-Americans in the United States. Not a single dark face was to be seen on the panel.
Dug the headwear, though. And I would really like a peacoat.

Bob Avakian often sports a chapeau but it isn't officially a beret, is it? Back in the day Maoists used to fancy some type of Greek fisherman's cap.

You have to have a certain sense of style to properly pull off a beret. Practically nobody has that nowadays, and indeed, most who try do end up looking silly in the process.
