I'm currently a college sophomore and have wanted to study or volunteer abroad since I was in high school. I have a love of Brazil and of the portuguese language. I'm currently studying the language alongside my medical concentration and would like to volunteer in Brazil to improve my language skills. Unfortunately, I've never had the opportunity because the programs range anywhere from $1400 and up. My college does offer some, but with the cost of tuition for the two classes you need to take it brings the price up to $7000 for in-state students. I'm a working class citizen, so I rarely have a couple of thousand dollars laying around that doesn't need to go towards tuition, textbooks, or a bill. Luckily, I was scanning the forum earlier and came across a recommendation for Volunteerlatinamerica.com. This organization let's people volunteer in latin american countries, and most of the programs are free with the exception of flight/visa/passport costs, and for a few programs, lodging and food (though it's still very cheap and doable for me). Basically, this would be a great opportunity for me. I just need some help raising money to cover my flight and passport/visa. Does anyone have any suggestions? I've tried looking at donation websites, but most are only for those who have family and friends who can help (which I don't). Anyone know of any websites that allow strangers to make donations to a cause?
