It literally made my day when my comrades and I started booing that fucker and everyone actually joined in. It's clear that the vast majority of the trade union membership is fully committed to opposing the cuts in any way they can. The biggest cheers were for Bob Crow (who was prevented from speaking at the last march) and others who called for a general strike. It's a shame that there's so much energy and promise in the TUC membership that is guided into mindlessly supporting the Labour Party thanks to the bureaucrats at the top. It's yet more of that 'lesser evil' shit.

He's calling for a general strike. Anyone with insights into this? Actual possibilities?

he was talking about this in september - see http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2012/sep/07/unite-union-leader-warns-public-sector-strikes
however 24 hr strike is of no use and i cant see a ballot getting a vote for a longer strike succeeding -
something has to happen soon because when the cuts kick in next april it will be too late - tuc are acting far too late

I actually don't know what was going through his mind when he thought it would be a good idea to speak at an anti-cuts demonstration and tell everyone there would have to be cuts, but I'm glad he was booed.

He was cheered as well. He received a mixed response, not just a negative one.

Well he started speaking about his 'one nation' crap and how we had to fight austerity and there was claps from the labourites. Then when he said something along the lines of 'of course, there will be tough decisions and we will have to make sacrifices' everyone started booing so he quickly tried to save face by promising to stop the privatisation of the NHS.
