Anybody else seen it, what are your thoughts?
I thought a few parts where meh, but over all it was good. I like how the film at least made an attempt to show why the people of Iran where angry, rather then simply portraying them as an irrational mob with no motivations beyond destroying shit, which when I first saw the advertisements is what I thought the film was going to be. .

I saw it because some other people I know wanted to go and so I thought I'd join out of curiosity.
On a movie level, it was passable enough 75% of the time if you could sort of look at it as one of those "team of experts" movies Hollywood loves to make. Loved the period aspects of the sets and costumes. The plot itself was realitivly slight and boring once they started to leave.
But I did think it was pretty horribly islamophobic, even though it wasn't totally over-the-top with it. But while it mentions some of the history that led up to the historical events, it mentions why some people may have been pissed at the US and their dictator... it only dramatizes the diplomatic staff's experience. While it mostly shied away from the issue of religious fundamenatlism, instead it just repeated an non-explicitly anti-islam version of the same islamophobic story of the Revolution: people may have been justly upset by a bad dictator, but they can't rule themselves without things devolving into "sectarian score-settling" as the movie called it. This applied to the anti-american sentiment: as if this was just score-settling too, as if the Iranians only wanted to get US secret documents reassembled so they could find some americans to torture, not because they wanted to find out the strings the US had been pulling.
