View Full Version : Contradiction/antagonism in a communist system

I do realize that under capitalism and socialism, a state oversees a superstructure of irreconcilable class antagonisms. In these conditions, many things, for example "innocent people dying" due to atrocities are possible.
I do realize that contradiction is an absolute law of nature, and that social change is inevitable. Under primitive communism, there was contradiction between man and nature, with men fighting to protect themselves against nature. Now, the contradictions seem to lie with men against an exploitative system.
What contradiction or antagonism would exist in the "mechanical communism" born out of a capitalist system? For some reason, I can't really think of any examples. Could someone help me out?

Would one of the contradictions be man vs. the universe? Maybe I'm totally misinterpreting this question, but if humanity was united under communism I imagine we would begin turning out science and technology to the stars, leading to new realms of discovery and of course contradiction.
It would be similar to man vs. nature under primitive communism, only on a much grander scale.
And now that I think of it the man vs. nature contradiction never really ceases to exist. I imagine future communist societies will be particularly concerned with eliminating problems such as diseases or natural disasters.

Sorry but I really doubt this. Scientific theory right now isn't blocked by capitalism. Scientific projects maybe, but scientists aren't going to be able to come up with a way to travel interstellar space just because they're in a post-capitalist society.

Well I wasn't saying that technology is going to spontaneously explode to Star Trek levels as soon as communism is established, but don't you think that the use-value/exchange-value contradiction is retarding progress and removing it will allow scientific progress to flourish?

Edit: Oh, okay. I thought you were being literal about the "to the stars" part.
I'd definitely agree that scientific progress is being halted under capitalism.

Scientific progress definitely, but I don't think that interstellar space travel technology is being restricted under bourgeois society.
Well perhaps you're right. I haven't done a ton of research into the issue but I'm always hearing about NASA and space-related sciences in general begging for funding, so I just assumed that's how it was.

The needs of industrialization/modern society vs preservation of nature would be the biggest issue i can think off.
At one point we will have to ask ourselves will we cut down that forest to build more homes.

The point to global communism is the eradication of the social and economic bases of class antagonism which is structural in capitalism. So in this sense, no we can't talk about "contradiction" or antagonism in this sense.
