What leftist groupings have you been a part of/around over the years? And which ones do you have interesting stories from? (If you don't mind me asking)

He, obviously, is a Sam Webbist.
He probably is Sam Webb, so CPUSA is the answer.

I know he was in the PSL at one point; in a related note, Jbeard is one of the funniest dudes on the site.

I mean he has a lot of hate for the PSL, but I dunno if he said he was a member.

When he joined revleft he was a member. Now he hates them because of the undemocratic nature and abusiveness, immaturity, and harassment of the leadership, I think is what he told me.

Think he's with kasama now.

And yeah, dude gets me roling.

Ugh, Kasama? Weak.

As far as his politics go, that's probably the best place he could be.

Can I speak now? No, I do not hang with the Maoist over at Mike Ely's place. There are some interesting reads over here though. I try and make it a point not to dismiss people's ideas based on tendency nonsense.

Second, yes I was a kind of a member of PSL. I never went through the cadre program formally. I got into how much actual street work they did. Also I met them at Occupy L.A. I saw a lot of shit that I didn't like and knew it was all coming from the top. When you go to a restaurant and the employees are all assholes then you know the owner 's a prick as well. Shit rolls downhill.

Out of high school I got into the Peace and Freedom Party. Back then they were fucking hard! Everyone was in. The goddamn Sparts would always be packin, no shit. They had their own fuckin gun club. Sandanista expats were spraypainting the walls of downtown LA with Hammer and Sickles! They were bringing it here!! Christ it was glorious. The De Leonist were kinda big. The Maoist were down as well. The only time the word comrade was ever used was in reference to someone being a member of the CP. I saw Gus hall faint. Must have been doin an impression of of his own Party I guess. Was an official member of the SP. Christ what a joke. That lasted maybe a year.I got to speak in front of 2000 people at a Rock the Vote event for PF. Did a lot of union work as well. Drywall workers, UFW, UFCW. That shit will drain your soul. I have hung out with Solidarity, Irish Republicans(spent a bit of time up in Derry and Belfast). Spent some time in Cuba. In 2001 I decided to take time off. Came back in 2010.
I moved around a lot. I still do.

The funniest thing to ever happen I guess was when I was 16 and the County Chairperson of the PF asked me to go to a SCC(State Central Committee) meeting in L.A. with her. Now mind you she is a 70 year old Quaker/CP member. The nicest person you will ever meet. She asks me to drive her car, I do. As we cross into L.A. she busts out a couple of beers and tells me that it's OK. And that LA cool. Fuck ya!!
We end up killin a six pack AND she got us hooked up at a Buddhist monastery in Inglewood for the weekend. So for the rest of the evening we got drunk next to a huge Buddha statue and talked about the same shit that we talk about here on REVLEFT. We haven't gotten very far have we? And my parents thought I went camping.

I think we are done here.

Back in the day it was a true coalition party that was more involved with radicalizing, organizing and supporting progressive union activity. You have to remember that one of the early party platforms called for revolutionary change "by any means necessary" and the exporting of that revolution around the world. Obviously shite politics, and of course you know which tendency won the day with that addition, but it gives you a good idea as to where the priorities were back then.
