Israel Downs Hezbollah Drone
Sunday October 07, 2012 05:42 by Saed Bannoura - IMEMC & Agencies

An Israeli military spokesperson reported Saturday that the Israeli Air Force downed an unmanned drone over the northern part of the Negev Desert. The army said that the drone did not carry any explosives.

The incident took place around 10 in the morning; the army conducted a search campaign in order to locate the crash site; not weapons of explosives were found.

The drone crashed in an area located between Hebron, in the southern part of the West Bank, and the nearby town of Yatta.

Israel said that it is likely that the Lebanon-based Hezbollah party launched the unmanned aircraft in an attempt to reach the Israeli Dimona nuclear reactor in the Negev, and did not rule out the possibility that this drone was launched to examine the area of the reactor in order to bomb it at a later stage.

Israeli Ynet News reported that the drone was very likely manufactured by Iran, and added that this type of drones could pose a serious risk of damage to the reactor and that despite the fact that Israel downed the drone; the whole issue is considered a moral victory for Hezbollah.

Oh so Iran is supplying drones to terrorist organizations oh no they must be stopped.

Yet another footnote in the path to war with Iran.

Or Lebanon. Does Israel have a single neighbor that it doesn't want to invade? Their relations with Egypt have gone completely to shit since the military dictatorship ended, though Americans are still forcing the Egyptians to play nice to an extent.

I cant help but feel that this is an ironic repeat of the beginnings of the second world war, with Israel being compared to Nazi Germany and other Arab nations being the surrounding European nations; Israels occupation of Palestinian territory being akin to the occupation of Austria and the Sudetenland, and the possibility of a future invasion of Iran being exactly like that of the Blitzkrieg against Poland in 1939.

Concerning, and ironic.

Israel doesn't want to embarass itself by invading Lebanon too early, getting it's ass handed to it by a bunch of teenagers with outdated weapons and then creating new resistance movements. They probably will have to wait until Hizbullah is weaker. I'm not entirally convinced on the relations thing though, the Ikhwan atleast seem a-okay teaming up with Israel to fight 'lawlessness and terrorism' in the Sinai. Heaven forbid the MB and it's franchises be anything but opportunistic power hungry islamo-capitalists.

Hearing about this on the news irritated me. News commentators were discussing the fact that a single, unarmed drone flew over Israel in the somber tones usually reserved for stories regarding child molestation. Oh poor, embattled Israel!
