Am i the only one who is getting more and more frustrated about the amount of capitalist banner ads on this site?
I don't know about other countries, but in holland i keep getting shitty ads.

Banks, anti-terrorism, hosting-providers, car-brands, ceo-courses, etc.

It's a real big eye-sore for me, how about you?

I don't pay attention to them. I don't really care what they advertise.

Just looking now, the current ad is:

The most amusing one I've seen so far was an ad for the Atlas Shrugged movie.

Nope.
A while back, when there were elctions in the Netherlands, there were a lot of ads for the VVD a conservative-liberal party.

I always get one asking for people to donate cars for needy veterans  but its not like the admins can control what ads come through, it's all up to whatever shitty database the provider is using.

In Jersey I get ads for senior citizen dating with the ads containing erotically posed pictures of 60 year old women.

I kind of forgot they existed thanks to the handy tool that is AdBlock. I mean, how can you really call yourself a leftist if you don't even run your internet by Socialist standards?

Better to put up with stupid ads then to have to pay to keep it up.

I've always used the neutral skin. So I've never seen any ads.

Well, the people placing ads in Google's networks are paying RevLeft's server bills. So, the promoters for Atlas Shrugged II, the VVD, and senior dating are paying the bills. A while back there were Tea Party ads, haha. The Tea Party (er, whatever organization claiming the title that was paying for the ads) was paying part of the server bill of a revolutionary-leftist site.

Google uses CPM (cost-per-1000-impressions) and CPC (cost-per-click) for ad payouts. CPC pays better than CPM. So if you see an ad for someone you hate, like a Tea Party org, click the ad and they'll give more money (passively, they put money in an account and google drains it slowly). Don't do this obsessively, though, or it may show up as 'click fraud' and then RevLeft is banished from the google kingdom.

The ads are partially contextual and partially based on the bit of your browsing history that google has been able to track. So, positivist, been looking at mature porn sites lately?

I do think it is somewhat ironic that these companies/parties are paying for a site that wants to destroy them.

Same here, and it's kinda surprising to see how many people use the weird gray thing because it looks pretty hideous

It's the adverts for joining the Army that get me. Yeah, that's gonna happen. Leftist politico-nerds flocking to enlist is a real possibility.

Still, in terms of the OP I'm not sure what 'non-capitalist banner ads' would look like. Or how they'd work, or anything.

YES! And the whole anarchist-a and hammer-and-sickle revleft logo...I'm sorry but it just doesn't cut it for me. And the hideous gray background of course. There is a better way!

I think they would be non-existent, calling to revolt and red...mainly.

ads mostly go by keywords so it makes sense that we would get a lot of unfitting political ads. I don't think it's a big deal at all, it's required to keep the site running.

Google chooses specifically where the ads go, not the companies. The most they can do is specify some categories.

So I temporarily disabled AdBlock on this site, just to see what kind of ads I would get. Here a sampling:

1) Some kind of book (presumably fiction) I've never heard of. Looked like the kind of generic mushy pap one finds by the bin-load in charity shops, and which I would never choose to read unless I was locked in a box with no other form of stimulation possible.

2) A skin product purporting to make one look at least two decades younger (seriously?! I'm only 25!).

3) Solicitors' services (that's "lawyers" to you septics). If it was offering the opportunity to shoot them then I might be interested.

4) "Find out for FREE if you are owed £2,400*", yes the star is not a mistype. I very much doubt I'm owed anything, but the naked attempt at appealing to my wallet does a good job of insulting my intelligence.

5) "Discover your military ancestor's final journey" - What difference does it make whether or not one of my forebears died a miserable death in some shithole somewhere at the orders of some over-educated and under-chinned Rupert (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=rupert)? Really?

Fuck, I hate adverts.
