Not related to politics, but a few months ago I was attacked by a friend's boyfriend while driving, got beat up (had to run the car off the road) and the cops responded. I don't have a drivers license but they didnt charge me. I was called to testify against him and refused, now the state's attorney is prosecuting me for driving on a suspended license.

Please keep me in your thoughts/send some positive vibes my way.

Well fuck what kind of asshole starts a fight in a car with the driver ?

I hope you will kick his ass should you ever see him again.

doesn't even make sense

I was a moving car once when the driver had hot coffee thrown onto him by his girlfriend(well not for long afterwards) in the front passenger seat...at least I was wearing a seat-belt.

To OP: good luck comrade. How harsh are the penalties for driving on a suspended license in your state? Do you face anything more serious than a fine and some community service?

edit: i wasn't a moving car, I was IN a moving car, typo

My lawyer is gonna lean on the states attorney, since it is apparently unethical for him to prosecute. I could potentially do a few weeks in county (its my second offense) but a fine would be more likely. Hopefully it'll just get dropped.

hahahaha prosecuting someone for something as a punishment for not testifying against someone is EXTREMELY unethical.

Hopefully, if the SA isn't convinced, the judge will be.

No chance of getting your license reinstated before the court date is there? Barring that you may just have to bite the bullet. I'd rather do the time than pay those assholes any money though. Fuck 'em. Leave the soap on the floor comrade.:thumbup1:

That story with the drivers license... There are like 1 million + of unsuitable drivers but they have a drivers license and its ok. Yeah my grandfather is technically blind but he has a drivers license....

Anyway I hope everything goes well and may I ask why he attacked you? Did you provoke him or was it all in his mind? Just curious :)

So says the guy with the neg reps:rolleyes:. Obviously you have never had to do time, and I hope you never do. This is the ugly reality of doing even county time.
Good lookin out though, but better luck next time.

So it turns out that today was not my trial date, just my preliminary hearing, the judge set my trial for January, and its a different prosecutor than the one whol told me I wouldn't be charged but my lawyer is gonna lean on the original prosecutor, and I at least got a good judge.

Is it true if the county jails are full, they will just let you go?

Hope it goes well. All prosecutors are bastards.

I got hit with driving with an expired license, but it was just a traffic court matter and it was supposed to be a 1200 fine or something but when I went in I did a payment plan and they knocked it down to 800. This was a few years ago and I haven't paid because the court can't find a record of the case anymore. I'm sort of in license limbo because I have the suspension, but no case behind it that I can clear to then get my license back. I could be ok without a license, but I'm worried something like this will fuck me up if I get arrested at a demo or something. It means I have to go back and talk to a judge again - somehow going to court always slips to the bottom of my to-do list tho.

Jimmie Higgins such a badass avoiding court dates. Looks judges in the eyes and makes them cry!

Jimmie Higgins such a badass avoiding court dates. Looks judges in the eyes and makes them cry!LOL, more likely the other way around. And my shit is just a traffic court matter - the Douche has a freaking prosecutor with a grudge. Not snitching under pressure is bad-ass. I'm just lazy: I work graveyard shift and so going to court for me is like having to face court a 4am for most people.

So being up all night and then showing up an hour before court even opens (that's when the line forms); then standing in line inside for another hour or more; then another hour sitting in the stuffy courtroom where everyone is whispering in a way that creates that sleepy white noise; then having that interrupted by a loud condescending bailiff who talks to everyone like they are a two year old who was raised by goats and stares at my sleepy-ass while emphasizing that they will clear the court if people fall asleep; then sitting through another 20 minutes as the judge shows up late and chats with the court personnel; then through all the other cases before you get to go up and have a judge talk down to you and ask questions he's not going to consider the answers to anyway. It's just one long pain in the ass - I wish everything had been cleared up in my last two visits. It's not very political - it's the same reason that people with cavities sometimes avoid the dentist.

(I did do kind of a bad-ass thing in a court one time which was that I got called for jury duty and it ended up being a death penalty case. Long story short: we had to fill out these like 80 page questionnaires and I ripped mine up and ranted about the death penalty and Tookie Williams in a room with scores of potential jurors - hopefully causing a tainted jury pool and forcing them to start all over with a new set of potential jurors.)

Really, though, that's a great way to get out of jury duty. I told them I moved out of the county, to the next one over. They never confirmed, just removed me from the rotation. My guess is it works until I have to renew my license.
