Anyone here listen to hardcore? I've heard that it's traditionally an antifa genre

Can you link some good hardcore tracks?

i would say that your sources are wrong, gabber (dutch hardcore) dates from the late 80's and evolved from acid, german digital hardcore took that sound in the early 90's from a more punk background (although jeroen flamman, a amsterdam gabber pioneer has a background in the political squat scene and still hangs out here in the punk scene).

anyways, the really political stuff you are referring too is probably the german scene around digital hardcore recordings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_hardcore), with artists like alec empire and his group atari teenage riot at the front.

related, the most populair music genre behind crust in the anarcho/squat scene (at least here in the netherlands) is tekno (not to be confused with techno, the deeply commercial shite) but something that borrows in equal parts from hardcore and drum&base.

here is some classic footage of atari teenage riot getting nicked for incitement during the 1999 1st of may march/riot: 0G-TI8aYoL4

techno isn't really "deeply commercial shite" tho, as any trip to berlin clubs would testify.

i mean, i know what passes for "techno" is shite most of the time... but people like underground resistance, ricardo villalobos (who left chile as a child 'cos of pinochet), omar s... that ain't shit, and in some cases it's pretty political.

I've heard that there's a significant neo-nazi/fascist presence in the gabber scene, is that true?

I've heard that there's a significant neo-nazi/fascist presence in the gabber scene, is that true?

Not in the original underground nor the current broad gabber scene (lots of the gabber pioneers where either black or gay or both throwing underground parties in squats), but as gabber became the dominant (white working-class) youthculture in the late 90's, coinciding with the rise of Pim fortuijn and the new far-right a sizeable part of the terrorscene (terror being the most hardcore sub-genre) had a really nasty fling with the extreme right. Not that they (with a few notable exceptions) became ever political activists but esp in rural area's "lonsdale youth" decked out in whitepower symbols, mosque burnings and Nazi graffiti where very common for a while. There was no real connection with gabber per se (outside some idiots who invented the national-hardcore subgenre) but its safe to say black people where in serious danger for a while at big raves or in rural clubs. Now most of the dedicated fash have switched to the bonehead scene and gabber evolved into hardstyle and is back being a more urban genre the amount of fash in the scene became insignificant again. But it was scary for a while, think EDL haydays.

I don't know if it's antifa...it's rather apolitical really (except maybe dutch hardcore).

I listen to hardcore but I don't know if you can call the stuff I listen to gabber. Everyone I ever met that's familiar with the stuff calls it early hardcore.

nah, dutch hardcore gabber is pretty non political as well, during the time psyco described the party animals (produced by flaman) did a anti nazi track, i believe with the american Rob Gee from Natas but that was pretty much it.
there are quit a few nazi themed songs though..

And i'm afraid i disagree with psycho about the amounts of fash in the hardcore scene at the moment. 'Mainstream gabber' turned hardstyle, 'pure gabber' is still there though not as huge as it used to. During these raves, i go like maybe twice a year, i see a lot of fash symbolism. that depends on where you go though, randstad is oke, south and east holland there can be a intimidating fash influence. maybe that has changed the last few years, i stopped going over there so i haven't been in a while.

good classic dutch gabber producers (yt yourself)
Rotterdam Terror Squad (no nazi's) (Horror, gonna blow ya mind)
Neophyte/bodylotion (brain cracking, alles naar de klote)
nasferatu
catscan
angerfist
buzz fuzz
weirdo
masochist (killing scum)

and if you wanna download or something try searching these

thunderdome
(like 24 dubble cd's, peaked on the hype but didn't totally sell out)

hellraiser (more underground, compilation series)

Hellsound (not terror yet but harder than TD)

RTC, neophyte and angerfist also released albums

wow, that has been a long time since i've heard this. they actually made it to counter the accusation made about them being nazi's, wich was a pretty hard rumour
