I don't know if it's a "sudden" problem. The kinds of opinions you're referring to have always been around on revleft, and more than one user has cited them as a reason for leaving.

I didn't know what MRA meant, but Urban Dictionary helped me out there. Yeah, they're annoying, I find them all over the internet unfortunately, much like bronies.

Yeah I was like: "Um.... MRA... Maoist Revolutionary Army? PUA... People's United Army?"

basically every thread about date rape.
it used to be a more common thing. i remember we had a couple real losers in here (I remember one was named greenanarchism or something) who were banned from the IRC for being awful, awful sexists. One got banned and the other had a meltdown about being "loveshy" and it was beautiful.

I remember manic expressive being a big advocate of these sorts of causes. But he's banned now, IIRC

Huh. I never saw that from him but it's not really surprising at all.
Gotta say I am glad the PUA/MRA communities exist. I hear about their dumbness on the internet and feel an irresistible urge to go outside for a little bit.

I dont think manic was ever explicitly an MRA type but he did have sexist tendencies and I'm glad he's gone.

Not necessarily the MRA thing, but I distinctly remember him defending the whole "pick-up artist" phenomenon.
I wish people could just communicate with each other in an atmosphere of mutual respect, honestly. That's probably too utopian on my part. Turning casual interaction into some kind of predatory thing (not to mention the other things like overtly sexist terminology or pointing out someone's insecurities and flaws so their self-esteem is low enough to fuck you) is kind of fucked up.

That will be a good addition to "You know you've spent too much time on revleft when..." type threads.

idk those people seem to always pop up, no matter where. when you think you're somewhere with actually p progressive people, out of nowhere somebody comes out with the most ridiculous apologies for rape, racism or whatever really, even if they considered themselves a true shining beacon of leftist thought.
it doesn't really help either when you're on a forum where I guess the average user is a sexually frustrated high school male. the perfect ground for MRA/PUA shit really, but fortunately also (most of the time) rather temporary

Those are stupid acronyms! Capitalism continues to debase the sacred art of acronymology with these stupid shenanigans. MRA and PUA should never mean what they do, it's a waste of a perfectly good acronym that we can never get back.

I'd reduce them to mere husks in 3 min, tops, flat.

I've never met anyone like this in real life ... thankfully
Do they have a real presence outside the internet or are they like Paulites, only going out on the full moon?

If anybody really is spouting PUA shit on here they're gonna get banned, more than likely.

personal experiences and all but they seem to be mostly kinda geeky and not at all macho. sure machismo and shit has lots of sexism in it too but it's a totally different thing from MRA
