"The Police Ethics Commissioner have recently announced the dismissal of 46% of all ethics complaints made during the student strike. These complaints have been dismissed and thrown out, some brought to "conciliation", to which the police officer accused will be not held responsible and only an opportunity for the victim to express feelings to the accused officer would be granted. Some of these complaints include video evidence, testimony and resulted in injury, emotional trauma or permanent damage to the victim. They anticipate this number rise, as more complaints are investigated.
During the student strike we have been helpless at the hands of a force intended to protect us. Some of our friends beaten so severely that their damage is irreparable, some of our friends who have lost pieces of jaw, their sight and their rights as humans at the hands of the SPVM.
We are told that in order to change the system, we must go the proper route. We are told that truth will prevail, that justice will be given if we fill out the paper work, if we file with the commissioner, if instead of throwing a rock we make a complaint. And when we do this, our cases, complaints and pleas for justice are thrown out like garbage in the street. Our voices are dismissed with the video evidence, with the paper work, with the red tape.
With this announcement we make one of our own; We call all victims of police violence, all people who have suffered under the repression of this state, of the SPVM and of the Ethics Commissioner to stand with us October 6th, to confront the oppressor to whom have beat us and arrested us, who have used their batons, their grenades and most importantly, their badges as a way to break us, to kill our spirits and to infringe on our goals.
We call a manifestation, October 6th 2012, to begin at Emilie Gamelin at 830PM against the dismissal of ethics complaints. We call for the people of Montreal to stand and march in the streets with us against the violence we have seen, to show the SPVM that the people of this city, the people to whom pay their salaries will NOT stand for such abuse of authority, will NOT stand weak under the shadow of their baton, who will no longer allow our innocence, our dignity and our will as people be stolen by men wearing helmets, carrying badges. Who will NOT stand as the police investigate themselves, who will NOT stand for abuse. Join us, dressed in black, as we declare our strength, our stance and our will to fight for justice.
THE ABUSED, THE WOUNDED AND THE ARRESTED WILL NOT REMAIN SILENT.
Down with the SPVM. Down with the Police.
If they will not listen in the court, they will hear us in the street"
