So yeah, this happened today, a 16 year old girl in haren, a very very posh enclave near groningen neglected to put her birthday event on Facebook on private. As a joke it went viral and the powers that be an the media freaked the fuck out. So the hype escalated, thousand of young people from groningen, the surrounding villages and all over the Netherlands doubled down and showed up to see what would happen, got drunk, got bored and laid waste to the town when the cops of course let themselves easily provoked.
Apparently a whole bunch of cars got trashed and burned, supermarkets got looted and several kids got seriously injured...
I'll post some vids later...

LOL. The local posh bastards apparently armed themselves with (field)hockey sticks (the archetypal posh sport) to fend of the mobs. Sounds like the invisible party came to town...

VVD-Haren was overspoeld met chavs, proles, and pauper hooligans. Pretty hilarious. Those people didn't know what hit them, "then I heard those songs you hear on TV in the football stadiums, and I was like 'oh no'."
Gouda, next, here we come. Haha, die sukkels hebben de ding al verwijdert volgens mij.

What I love about the whole thing is how it shits right into the face of the media narrative of 'the majority of law-abiding, tax-paying citizens'. Especially since the crowd was mostly young and white (as opposed to 'immigrants, football hooligans or squatters' who are usually fingered as being the sole elements responsible for any decent (attempt at a) riot here.
And yes there were anti-social acts involved with people shitting on some guy's lawn and that kind of stuff, though I don't see the difference with regular mass-drunk behavior in the weekends.
The way the media and cops and mayor respond is predictable as ever: "we need more cops out on the streets" (something shouted at equal volume by both the conservative-right and the 'socialists'), "kids these days aren't taught discipline anymore", "THE INTERNETZ IS HERE, RUN". With conservative blogs circulating pictures of the looters/rioters the aftermath seems to mirror that of all major urban riots in the past decade (Paris, London, etc.) where the 'barbarian hordes' are pitted against the 'decent citizens and virtuous defenders of property and civilization'.
What this kind of thing shows is how willing people are to raise their middle fingers against cops, media, journalists and the notion of 'property' despite the monotonous veil of daily life.

I liked the movie. But Haren just seemed boring. What kind of "wild party" ends around 12?

(mash-up of a commercial of "albertheijn", the biggest (and most expensive) supermarket chain and footage of kids plundering an albertheijn store in haren, pretty funny for the dutchies among us)

Were the appetizers worthy of all the rioting though? I like a simple amuse bouche before I "let the dogs out" so to speak. Woof, woof-woof, woof, woof.

The barbarians are not at the gates. They're inside the city walls.;)

Dutch leading member of the International Socialists (although, when he writes for bourgeois media, he never announces himself like that) Peyman Jafari wrote a piece in a main daily newspaper (http://www.volkskrant.nl/vk/nl/3184/opinie/article/detail/3320896/2012/09/23/Autochtone-gemeenschap-moet-rellen-in-Haren-veroordelen.dhtml) calling for the "native community to condemn the riots in Haren".
It is a very obvious satirical take on the normal discourse where "foreigners" are often collectively blamed if, for example, Moroccan youth cause problems. And, like any proper satire, he caused a shitstorm of Dutch "natives" attacking him for being "biased", "unfair" and stuff like that.
I find it hilarious
