http://torrentfreak.com/images/fail-julia.jpg This pirate party senior politician, which supports the free exchange of copyrighted content for non-commercial uses on the Internet, is reported to have received an advance of €100,000 ($130,000) for her first book "Klick mich: Bekenntnisse einer Internet-Exhibitionistin" ("Click Me: Confessions of an Internet Exhibitionist").
Schramm's publisher Knaus Verlag, which is owned by Random House, filed a takedown request earlier this week to stop illegal copies of the book being distributed online.

I had not heard of her or the pirate party until you posted this. I had a look around and noticed another article bout it in which she says
Schramm initially defended her decision to have her book published but later came to the conclusion that it might not have been the best one.
“In retrospect, of course, I could have negotiated more aggressively with the publisher on some aspects,” Schramm told (http://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/article109312559/Mit-feindlicher-Netz-Reaktion-habe-ich-gerechnet.html) Welt. She also noted that the text on her website was still free to read and planned to make her book free when the current copyright runs out.It seems like she (as a senior member of a piracy group) never thought of negotiating with her publisher over the copyright status of her book. Maybe it was that big cheque for 100,000 which clouded her thinking.
Im afraid on the surface she comes across as an attention-seeking sell out. The title of the book "Click Me: Confessions of an Internet Exhibitionist" seems to sum it up for me.

I am not a supporter, but she doesn't control the publisher, it seems like an awfully opportunistic way to attack her and make her look bad.
But, she doesn't control the actions of the publisher, a corporation which will naturally pursue & defend its financial interests.

I agree but you can't ever know the complete truth... She might agreed to do this too. She might not. But probably it's as you say

Lawrence Lessig released Free Culture under creative commons.

Why did she need a publisher in the first place? As The Idler indicates, she could have self-published under creative commons.

I'd contest this, I've had quite a bit of trouble finding pirated books especially after they shut down gigapedia. There are a few new sites? Do you know any good ones in particular?
o well this is ok I guess

That she had a publisher doesn't mean she is some sort of horrible selfish reactionary pro-capitalist, it just means she went with a publisher. It could have been for any reason. It doesn't negate her politics and I'm not sure how it's relevant at all. Maybe she wanted her book to be released in print, I dunno. But having the book released through a publisher doesn't really impact upon her politics, imo.
