the time person of the year was just named, the us soldier
my cynical self is saying this is just rediculous propaganda but im not sure, i mean i can see that theyve influenced the world alot this past year in iraq and all but is it really something to make them the influential person of the year? there must be ppl who have done so much more, who have done things that have changed the path of human existance more than the weakly unified sadly driven united states armed forces soldier

the time award is given out to the most talked about person of the year, such as hitler was one and stalin was twice. i dont think you should care much about a magazine award especially one like TIME.

i probably shouldn't, but i used to respect it, especially because they used to not care about what the majority thought, they would print what they saw fit, but this just shows that they have failed and it makes me sad

I still can't believe that Rudy G was the "Person of the Year" in 2001, not Bin Laden.

Rudy G?????? What the hell did he do apart from walk around the WTC site looking concerned???

Exactly, but people loved him...and still do for some reason.

In my leadership class, we were discussing leaders etc...This one dude was talking about everything Rudy did, and how he is so good, and how he wants to suck his dick etc (he seemed to get a little emotional about it)...I was ready to throw up.

LOL, Let me see, on the one hand you have Mr G, who done nothing except express concern and give interviews in the aftermath of 9/11 and is considered a hero. Then you have someone like Che who gave his own life to bring equality and justice to this world.

Who is the real great man????

I imagine Hitler was given the award when he was favoured in America (e.g. 1936), similarly I imagine Stalin was given it when the USSR entered the war. It probably had always been American propaganda. How can they vote for one American soldier? There is not one greatly popular American soldier.

The American Soldier

They swept across Iraq and conquered it in 21 days. They stand guard on streets pot-holed with skepticism and rancor. They caught Saddam Hussein. They are the face of America, its might and good will, in a region unused to democracy. The U.S. G.I. is TIME's Person of the Year.

Please note the word conquered, not liberated... . And they are NOT the face of America, cause if they are, then I am fucking moving to Europe. My Canadian face isn't the face of an American Soldier doing what they have been brain washed to do. And wow, the captured Saddam Hussein...that's great. Now how about capturing some of them WMD that I heard so much about eh...that's right, they don't exist...morons. God, this award pisses me right off.

I think it's pretty stupid, just as the people that support the U$ troops. Who cares if they die? I'm sorry, but that's what they want! They want to die for a country that doesn't care about them. When they interviewed the troops as the war was starting, they said they were happy they would be going to war! Well, good for those little robots. I think a person of the year has to be one that is doing something GOOD, and this little bastards are killing innocent people.

Of course the people of Iraq are unused to democracy the U.S. keeps helping "dick"tators rise to power. And of course they will remain unused to it untill the U.S. gets the hell out and stops meddling in other peoples business.

Saddam was talked about alot more than the common soldier. We should see his ugly mug on the cover. But Time is a corporate paper and they'll print any dumb thing these days if it sells.

i got pissed off at time a while ago when they did a mini article about "samara: what really happened?" where the two different stories where one was that US troops killed 50 hostile insurgents and the other from the iraqi perspective saying that over half of the 64 people killed were innocent civilians. i mean, HONESTLY, which one is seriously the truth? do we even need to debate this?

Actually, the Time Person of the year was supposed to be Jesus, but they replaced it with Saddam Hussein.

(This isn't a joke, by the way.)

There used to be a saying: Life magazine is for people who can't read and Time magazine is for people who can't think.

and they are just doing their job, if one of the average soldiers had been in command it would be like "hell, when the babies grow up they will shoot us, so lets shoot 'em first"...

do they really want us to believe that the american soldiers acutally know or believe in what they are fighting for....
