Have no idea what Post Garden is. Hope you find the atmosphere here rewarding. What are your politics? Welcome!

A little about me. I heard about this place from Post Garden, a forum that used to be part of Something Awful before being shut down and moved off site. The forum as it is now is a safe space for leftists though it has had some troubles staying open and someone suggested here since this place shares the overwhelming majority of its values.

As for myself I am a 28 year old special ed teacher from Jacksonville. Ironically, I myself also have asperger's syndrome. I'm a gamer, both video games and also tabletop role-playing games. I have an interest in science fiction, fantasy, and horror. I also have leftist view points and I am consistently let down by the liberalism that the American political parties and American media and intellectual culture embodies. I used to post on Something Awful though I've been taking a break and just lurking for now as the admins there have been unsympathetic to the leftist community, especially since shutting down Laissez's Fair.

LF was the best fucking part of something awful and it's a shame to see it go.

Please, please, please send former LF posters here we desperately need posters of that quality here and I am really looking forward to your posts here.

At first, I thought the subject heading read: "Hello, I'm on fire!" And I thought, "Then why are you at the computer?!" Anyway, I'm glad you're not on fire, and welcome! My younger brother is on the spectrum, as well, so I can really appreciate what you do. In fact, I have family in Jacksonville. In any case, welcome to RevLeft, where it's marginally more intellectually fulfilling than Something Awful.

I haven't really found a label beyond leftist. I guess you can some I am in somewhat of a transition, LF's offshoot, postgarden really opened my eyes to Marxism which I had dismissed based on the lies and propaganda of the historical and media narrative of American culture that Communism was a well intentioned experiment that led to oppression, starvation, and atrocities. My views have shifted, now I see that is a much more accurate description of capitalism. I would still say I have some objections that I am trying to work through as I reassess my previous thinking.

Still, even when I was a "liberal" I was quite sympathetic to people like Chomsky and Occupy Wall street. My job keeps me busy these days but when I was in college back in 2003-2006 I was active in the anti-Iraq war movement and anti-FTAA, going to protests and some direct action, not that it did much good. Everything we said would happen pretty much came true and we were dismissed as a focus group with poor hygiene. I was lucky not to be arrested as if I had, I wouldn't be able to hold the wonderful job I hold now, making what I hope is a difference in the lives of children.

Right now I am in a LARP troupe that does World of Darkness games. Mage is my favorite. I also like Dungeons and Dragons.

As for video games, I've been playing The Sims, assorted MMOs, Diablo 3, and Bioware games.

I've been playing The Secret World for a bit, but I had to unsubscribe because I've been busy with other games and I didn't feel like paying the subscription.

Bioware RPGs are excellent.

I never played the original Dawn of War but I wouldn't recommend Dawn of War 2. To be fair, I haven't played any of the expansions.

Welcome to the forum. So I am guessing LF was not sympathetic to the philosophical idea of Laisse Faire. Or was it? I'm confused. Never really go to Something Awful. Heard of it. Matter fact...whatever.

Welcome to the forum. So I am guessing LF was not sympathetic to the philosophical idea of Laisse Faire. Or was it? I'm confused. Never really go to Something Awful. Heard of it. Matter fact...whatever.

It's kind of a long story but I'll give you the highlights. LF started as the lightly moderated political forum of Something Awful with a focus on Ron Paul. The name was a joke. It evolved. It was almost entirely people making fun of Ron Paul and his personality cult. Over time people started making effort posts about such things the nightmare that is our criminal justice system, social justice in general, as well as the ideas of Karl Marx. The lack of moderation was made up for by basically shouting people out of the forum who were stupid MRAs and concern trolls. Gradually the complexion of the forum shifted from liberal to socialist. SA being a comedy forum I guess you could say that the LF clique's philosophy was Groucho Marxism.

Eventually the admins and the FYAD* clique decided that LF was a "Retarded Forum for Faggots" because of the marxism, renamed it as such and appointed FYADers in charge who banned people for violating absurd rules like not putting a picture of Bart Simpson in every post or for whatever. They also created a new status called forum cancer that caused anyone who posted in LF to experience annoyances such as a changed avatar or a picture of the pokemon ponyta sometimes appearing whenever you hit the "submit reply" button.

Ultimately, they wound up deleting the forum outright. The trigger being a FYAD posting a threat against the presidents life and Lowtax getting a visit from the secret service. The LF community was misblamed. I was a fool and tried to kiss the asses of the mods to try to get them to undo what they did, changing the system from within. I wasn't really that much of an LF poster when it was on the forums but I did enjoy the prison thread and the other effort threads.

I wound up alienating both sides of the drama. My acount was made FYAD only so that FYAD could abuse me for a week. While FYADbanned, I made friends on IRC among the social justice posters who were still left and were having their own conflict with the mods. LF ultimately moved off site. Conflicts within the community caused the community to go through multiple incarnations. I was not really involved with it until "post garden." I had a rocky start as I was not really part of its evolution from liberalism to socialism.

*FYAD stands for Fuck You and Die. Its the "post whatever" forum for gross pictures and flame wars that has a cliquish culture with a nothing is sacred since of humor. They are loved by the admins and many of the moderators came from that clique.

I actually just built a new computer with a decent graphics card. The only thing is I'm a masochist (http://www.archlinux.org). Although, I just checked Wine's appdb (reimplementation of the windows api on linux) and apparently DoW and several expansions got platinum ratings (http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=1918), which means it runs flawlessly on Linux even though linux binaries were never provided.

So I'm off to acquire it using less than scrupulous methods.
