- Where are you from, whats the leftist scene there like?
I am originally from County Durham, England. The leftist scene is poorly organised politically as a result of deindustrialisation. There is however a strong socialist tradition and history personified by the Durham Miners' Gala and memories of 'traditional industry'.
I currently reside in the Medway region of Kent. The leftist scene here is poorly organised for similar reasons to above, particularly deindustrialisation. The area is strongly working class with a great deal of disenfranchisement with reformist Labourism being the only major outlet for working class voices.
- What branch of leftism do you subscribe to?
I am a Marxist who believes in the Leninist concept of the party as a vanguard of the working class. I am not a sectarian and don't care for nebulous squabbling between different tendencies.
I uphold the materialist conception of history and perceive the universe through the lens of Marx's method of analysis as applied in Capital Vols 1-3.
- How did you become a leftist?
Born into a typical Labour Party-voting family of the north east English working class. I ventured from social democracy in my teens to libertarian socialism in my early twenties before reading Marx in my mid-twenties. The latter of which was the beginning of my self-identification as a Marxist (I am now 30).

Welcome to RevLeft, Uppity Prole.
Don't be put off by the sectarianism on offer here. It's inevitable unfortunately. Ruling ideas of any epoch, making history not in circumatances of our chosing and all that. Hope you find plenty of interesting debates to get involved in.

Thank you very much. I've seen/encountered much sectarianism "offline" so I'm familiar with the usual differences. I'm looking forward to reading and participating in discussions.
Welcome to revleft! Hopefully we'll hear a lot from you on posts. This place can be, and is crazy a lot of the time, I think that's one of the pluses. Like I tell all new people just get past the super-new stage where the mods don't trust you fully the first 10 posts. Anyway feel free to ask if you have questions.
Cheers! :hammersickle:
Thank you very much. I understand the need for temporary restrictions to protect the board from trolling. Seems like the wise thing to do.

Thanks comrade. I've not encountered many of us in Medway. I know one or two, but most of my contacts are Kent-wide rather than the Medway Towns. There's a lot to be done.

I'm living in Kent as well bit further up river from you two though. We've been holding stalls in the Medway area every now and then. On the same street as the other (fake) socialist party no less. I tell you shit almost went down (not really). Have you got a local CPB branch in Kent? We're always looking for possible debates.

Yes there is a CPB branch (latered.wordpress.com) in Kent. What sort of stalls have you had in the area? A specific campaign or general awareness of the SPGB?

Just general awareness and talking to people about capitalism. Been going very well. We've mainly been in Gravesend High Street but we've switched to Canterbury now.

There's also the Kent Communist Group, if they're still going - http://www.facebook.com/pages/Kent-Communist-Group/149874061752683?ref=ts should get you there. Not sure if it'll be your bag or they yours, but it's probably worth checking out.

Thanks for the link, it doesn't seem to be totally my cup of tea though.

Los Angeles is definitely on the upswing as far as street work goes. The Left movement here takes on many forms. The entertainment industry is traditionally staffed by "liberal" minded folk. But the rest of the workers, many of whom are immigrants, are more open to the ideas of organizing sans the theoretical Marxist banter. Work in progress I guess.
