Adnan Latif, a Guantánamo prisoner who was on a hunger strike to protest his innocence, died this past Saturday. Latif, a Yemeni man who had spent more than a decade in Guantánamo, was identified today. He had been accused of training with the Taliban, though he denied this accusation and was never charged. Military reports show Latif was cleared, but remained held in Guantánamo because the U.S. does not allow prisoners to return to Yemen, as it considers the country unstable. Yet, 55 of the 167 Guantánamo prisoners are Yemeni. Latif was the ninth prisoner to die in Guantánamo.

I think it would be better put as "we don't want to return innocent people who we've pissed off by imprisoning and torturing them to their home countries where they might actually decide to go against us after all"
Vile fuckers.

Still find it hard to believe that the US can get away with this shit; from Bagram to Guantanamo, innocent (or at the very least, not formally charged) people have been killed or have died and no one's heads are rolling. No one in either the Bush or Obama administrations, no one senior in defense...
If Americans were subjected to this in any of the 'scary brown countries' you can bet there would be consequences.

It's like, growing up and being in school, you read about things like Manzanar and how that was from a dark chapter in American history and how we've learned our lesson and won't let such things happen in the future, because America is about freedom. Then things like this show what a lie that all is in the starkest possible terms.

Is this being reported at all in the MSM? I'm pretty sure it's not, but just checking, as I don't have TV.

We don't forget. We haven't that luxury. Put "The Torturers of Guantanamo" on a list and prepare for the day when we can cross it and them off.

Pretty Much.
Its terrible. I really thought Obama would shut that abomination down on day one but turns out he is either a coward or as much of right winger as the rest of them. I can't imagine what it must be like for those people.

If there is no evidence against these people, they should be released, like the constitution says.

It's a lot like Charlie Brown having the proverbial football taken away by Lucy just as he is about to kick it. She does it to him again and again, and he never learns. You really thought Obama would what? You fell for their lies yet again? Don't let them "Charlie Brown" you anymore comrade.
