Jim Harper, director of information policy at the Cato Institute, adds to NextGov that investigators pair facial recognition technology with publically available social networks in order to build bigger profiles. Facial recognition "is more accurate with a Google or a Facebook, because they will have anywhere from a half-dozen to a dozen pictures of an individual, whereas I imagine the FBI has one or two mug shots," he says. When these files are then fed to law enforcement agencies on local, federal and international levels, intelligence databases that include everything from close-ups of eyeballs and irises to online interests could be shared among offices.

Stopped reading where the source came from Russian Today which is once again Russia's Fox News equivalent.

Being a "committed user" you should know the rules. Making one-word posts is spam and it isn't allowed. You're getting infracted if I see you doing it again.
This post constitutes a warning to Lizard King.

Whatever the source, this is alarming. Its probably advisably at the ery least to reduce one's photos of FB and other "social media". Its ironic that the Cato Institute is funded by the Koch bros., although the seem to have had a recent falling out with them. Some of the stuff they put out is useful. The same with RT, obviously a branch of the Russian government bu sometimes they have useful info.
Yeah, Zuckerberg is clever. He injured the hype around his IPO to make himself a billionaire while others lost out, is working to eliminate our privacy while encouraging a large portion of the human race to post their profiles online, making themselves a target both for corporate advertisers and government security.

Here is some preview of some of the new technology. It can supposedly search through 36 million faces per second.

This isn't really all that new. If I remember correctly law enforcement used face recognition software after several riots both political and sports related up in Canada.

I don't think it's ironic. The Koch brothers are right-libertarians, and they've been involved in funding a number of different libertarian causes, like support for gay marriage, stem cell research, drug decriminalization, etc. David Koch is like the libertarian George Soros.

As others have said, these kinds of capabilities have existed for some time now. This probably just represents technological improvement or enhancement of the software.
