Shephard Fairey gets probation

Shephard Fairey, the designer of the Obama campaign's "Hope" logo, recently got probation.He's made a career out of essentially ripping off decades of leftist iconography from such sources as the Chinese Cultural Revolution, the Algerian War for Independence, and the Viet NLF. This would be okay except that he's neiered the message into a bland corporate consumerism.

this isn't exactly tru

Though he did design the obama hope poster (yellowis red and bleu) he did so on his own, not for anybody.

And yes, he copies a lot of propaganda style in his works, but he became famous by pasting the face of andre the giant (wwf dude) everywhere, worldwide. That fame allowed him to make and especially sell other works.

The other capitalist he robbed as you say is the one who took the original picture, claiming he had the rights to the image.

Yeah, he's become pretty mainstream but, he does put some politcs in his works, mainstream politics maybe but its more than can be said about most artists.

And i must hand it to him, he's still putting the giant out there..
