Hello comrades, today I have began a college marketing class, what should I expect exactly? It's very fascinating to me though. How can it be applied to socialism in any way? I feel like I'm gonna learn a lot about capitalism through it and I already have. Is it hypocritical for me to be an anarchist/communist (I don't know where I stand because I agree with communism and anarchism and there many variants) and be a business major? I detest capitalism, but I find this class fascinating.

Study what you like. I'd only say it'd be hypocritical having the power to hire and fire within a workplace as then you're in conflict with the workers and would, at one point or another, have to fire organisers.

Use it to make propaganda.

I say study what you like, but yes, it does seem a bit odd to be a business major and be a revolutionary leftist at the same time
I myself was a business major when I went back to school a couple years ago, but quickly became a Poli Sci major when I took a political philosophy class and I realized I was in the wrong major, heh. But if you want to learn more about Capitalism itself, you might be better served taking a economics class - I took a Microeconomics course and learned much about the basics capitalist framework: supply & demand, elasticity, entrepreneurship, business types (competition, oligopoly, monopoly), etc. I was already a commie when I took this class, but it really helped to show me all the inherit contradictions and flaws of crapitalism.
I won't make as much money probably being a Poli Sci major as I would being a business major, but dammit, business classes are more boring than watching paint dry. And I want to get into something I like doing, rather than something I will hate, even if it pays better.

Economics is what you're looking for if you still want to deal with the ins and outs of markets, but you don't want to become an exploitive asshat.
Studying bourgeois economics will give you a particular advantage in studying Marxian economic theory, as during the 20th century some of Marx's ideas were adapted for capitalism by Keynes.
And yeah: advertising is just propaganda, so you can easily use that for good.

learning about (liberal)economics is fine. Know your enemy. Just don't make your goal into being a bourgeois jerk.
