I believe Hitchens (when he was a Trotskyist) makes a compelling case for Slavery Reparations -- the lecture he gives in 2001 is simply excellent and I think it's definitely something to think about -- it means that slaves and their african-american descendants have more than 'paid their way' into deserving equal access to the means of wealth, etc.

Intriguing, I never knew that Hitchens used to be a trotskyist. I'll go and watch it now.
...And what the fuck is with those pseudoscientific, eugenical ramblings in the comment section?

The very reason why I never ever read YouTube comments..puts even the troll-iest comments on these threads to shame.
I have a fondness for Hitchens, enjoyed his book on being a contrarian, but that Iraq thing will always sour my memory of him.

One can only expect people who clearly have an inability to understand the argument or who have lots of guilt over slavery to try their best! Youtube definitely has lots of morons.. I used to spend too much time trying to correct people..thank goodness I dont waste any more time with that!
Be sure to check out his documentaries on Mother Teresa, Lady Diana, and Henry Kissinger!! All fantastic, all quite revealing, all essentially important.

Yes, Hitchens was a member of the forerunner to the present-day British SWP. So was Terry Eagleton. I think Hitchens may have even been an editor to their publication at some point decades ago, but I am not sure about that.
