TAMPA, Fla. Kassie Dulin, a 26-year-old Texan who dubs herself a pink patriot, walked Tuesday into a Starbucks and accidentally cut ahead of a fellow conventioneer in line.
The customer was Rick Santorum, the former GOP presidential candidate and a prime-time speaker that night.
I felt so bad, gushed Dulin, an alternate delegate from Coppell. But he was so gracious.
A day earlier, Ramy Khalil, a 36-year-old Houston native, was jostling for a street spot as he handed out Socialist Alternative fliers with other demonstrators.
As the protest wrapped up, he conducted a combative TV interview with Fox Business Network correspondent Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, a former MTV VJ.
Her arguments are just ridiculous, said Khalil, who now lives in Seattle.
Dulin and Khalil polar opposites in both ideology and method traveled hundreds of miles this week to Tampa, united in a desire to make their voices heard among the cacophony of thousands of others.
And while the two probably will never meet, they both carry the burden and pride of representing a younger generation and their home state of Texas.
