How clos too the books was ROTK compaired too the other two. I know that some parts have to be different for continuity in the films as they changed certain bits in the first two.
I was upset when I heared that Sarumans final exit wasnt in there and the scourging of the shire had been removed. I think that this was a brilliant part of the story as it showed the last remnants of evil being whipped away no matter how small or insignificant it would see to others.
Im looking forward to seeing it next week.

i thought it was weaker than the two previous films, obviously this was because it was the last film in the series and much had to be wrapped up. but great movie overall the scenes on Pellenor Fields were the best. I wish there was more Shelob and of the army of the dead. it is not however worthy of best picture. I had to sit two rows in front of a bunch of squealing girls <_< who would giggle and squeal whenever Orlando Bloom did anything.
i didnt cry one bit you wimps. :P

I hope that was sarcasm lol
If you are refering to the book of Return of the king it is already out and has been for the last fifty years.
And the Films are quite well based on the films with only a few things glaringly wrong. The films are still enjoyable if not an acurate history of middle earth.

The film was so fucking long.... jesus christ they should hang the editor. Also having read the books I was irritated to see that the spider was in the third film not the second. They also cut Christopher Lee out of the film bastards...
Also the buggers cried all the time, that did not happen in the book.
But appart from that it was excelent.

My thoughts exactly. The books are the truth the films are a fabriation and isnt a true representstion of the story.
The best thing they could have done was to make a movie bout each of the 6 books. that way they could have had everything.
6 films that actually live up to the books and tolkiens name and more time to put everything in.
I dont know why they wouldnt have wanted to do that. It would have meant more films so the studio capatalist could have made more money.

i used to be one of the biggest star wars fans ever, i used to sit around and if anyone would ever say anything was better than star wars i would have tried to kill them....
but i can honestly say that star wars couldn't even be put on a comparrison to these movies, maybe it was the special effects, i really don't care, these movies were just the best things ever, the battle scenes made me jump and the others made me cry and laugh, ROTK was 3hrs and 20min but when it ended after the 5th blank screen and the heathens laughed and cheared i thought i had only been there for an hour.

Enigma, Shelob was moved to the third film because that event takes place during the first part of the ROTK book and they made it 3 movies by combining both parts of the book into one, would you want to see a movie about Aragon, Gimli ect then go see another movie about Frodo and Sam? watch the dvds in that way, you'll see it would make to be a very boring movie

i dont know why people complain about the length of the movie, it is actually one minute longer than Godfather Part 2 at 201 minutes
Non-Sectarian Bastard!

It was a true master piece.
I still haven't figured out which part was for crying <_<
*Don't read below if you haven't seen it*
I have to say tough I had expected and hoped that Frodo would turn out the bad guy and that Smeagol would turn the good guy, in the last possible moment (Mount Doom). That would have been a nice suprise. I have no complaints about the length, I find it even too short for such a good story as this. And I would have liked 20 more minutes of fierce battle.

i was sitting there so long my arse was paralyzed.
when frodo and gandalf and the elves went to the land of the undying and the screen went white we all breathed sighs of relief but then it went back to the shire for sam's scene and there was this ENORMOUS collective groan in the audience. pretty fucking funny.
the army of the dead was terrible. it was all cartoonish and pirates of the caribbean-ish.
the olliphaunts kicked ass. legolas and aragorn looked too sexy for words.
minas tirith was absolutely beautiful.
shadowfax was the most beautiful horse ever. or at least the most majestic. aragorn had this fantastic bay with a star on its forehead and a snip on its nose who had the most lovely arch to his neck and the lightest step. it was utterly inspirational. and eomer's dappled grey was spectacular as well. in fact, all the horses were excellent.
the part where eowyn kicks serious nazgul ass was very well done except they didn't show her and faramir at the house of healing which was my absolute favorite mushy part in the book, where he figuratively slaps some sense into her.
that one orc leader with the pink squishy face was reeeaallllyyy creeping me out. blegh.
ooooooooh! how could i forget pippin and merry? they did the best job out of all the actors i think. gandalf was excellent too. but billy boyd has the most dazzling eyes. and the scene with him and denethor in the great hall was beautifully orchestrated. that song combined with the scenes of war and denethor eating his food in that disgusting way was really poignant. i found it to be the most gripping part in the whole film. and merry was fabulous with eowyn. and ian mckellen is just the man. no doubt about it.

I have still not seen the first LotR. Are the movies really that good? I have not been to one in like five years.
A reactionary I know came up to me today, laughing, saying "Rush Limbaugh likes LotR, what are you liberals going to do now?!" I replied, "For the last time, I am not a fucking liberal, I am a communist, and I have never seen this movie."

Excuse me while I try to unravel that post...
right: -

Nope, having just read the series again I can tell you that the Shelob appeared in book 4 "The Journey to Mordor ", which is in book 2 "the Two Towers" in the trilogy. It is in niether "The War of the Ring"
or "The Return of the King", which are the two books within the "Return of the King" book which is book 3 of the trilogy.

you misunderstood me, i said that the shelob event takes place during the events in the first book of ROTK, thats why it was moved to the 3rd film

saw it again last night, didnt have my bladder almost burst on me this time.
enigma if you read the timeline in the appendices you'll see that Gollum leads Frodo into Shelob's lair around the same time as the battle of Pelennor Fields. so thats how it takes place during the events of ROTK.

Minas Tirith was beautiful. There were so many auteur-type shots in the film, and the presence of Elrond throughout the film was almost as tragic as I imagined it to be. Great stuff!
