MANCHESTER, NH (CBS) A man running for sheriff in New Hampshire says if he is elected, he will arrest anyone involved in an abortion in his county.
UPDATE 8-23: Sheriff Candidate Apologizes (http://boston.cbslocal.com/2012/08/23/sheriff-candidate-apologizes-for-saying-he-would-use-deadly-force-to-stop-abortions/)
Frank Szabo set off a firestorm with the comments. People on all sides of the political spectrum have condemned the statements, but Szabo stands by them. He says its the sheriffs job to protect every citizen even the unborn.

Szabo is running as a Republican for Hillsborough County Sheriff. But he injected a new issue in the debate when he sent out a press release saying he would arrest anyone performing an abortion.
He took it a step further when asked how far hed go to stop one.
Deadly force is the last thing law enforcement should be using, if a citizens life is in danger they should be protected, says Szabo. If there is no other choice, thats whats needed to protect the citizen.
Republicans called Szabos statement, Irresponsible, outrageous, and inappropriate.
Democrats said, Every Republican officeholder and candidate in New Hampshire must condemn and reject this man and his beliefs.
His opponent, current Hillsborough County Sheriff James Hardy says Szbaos statement could incite violence.
My opponent wants to substitute his opinions for enforcing the law, says Sheriff Hardy.
And voters in downtown Manchester seemed surprised abortion was even an issue the sheriffs race.
Im not sure how he feels he can get away with that, said one woman.
I think people have strong opinions and it would influence how they vote, said another woman.
Szabo isnt backing down.
He says, Why is there a difference between someone who is 20 years old and their life is in danger and someone who is nine months in utero.
Szabo will face off against the current sheriff in the Republican primary next month.

I'm not too familiar with semiotics, but are instances like this and the guy from Missouri who confused women with ducks examples of hyperreality? Ignorance alone seems insufficient to explain this kind of thing.

Election season is entertaining but only in the way strong turbulance on an airplane is entertaining.

“Deadly force is the last thing law enforcement should be using, if a citizen’s life is in danger they should be protected,” says Szabo. “If there is no other choice, that’s what’s needed to protect the citizen.”

Right. Every citizen should be protected. SO he is going to kill them to protect them. The guy is a tool, he has no actual thought process, just regurgitation of things told to him.

What's also scary about this is this guy is in New Hampshire, which (last time I checked) was a fairly progressive state. I'd expect assholes like this in the Bible Belt, but never New Hampshire...

New Hampshire is actually a traditionally right wing state, and although the state isn't as extreme as it used to be during the Cold War era it still has its share of crazies.Hillsborough County is relatively liberal.

BTW there is a socialist candidate running fr Congress in NH, Danny Keating. He did not get enough signatures to be on the ballot but he is running as a write in candidate.

To quote Bill Hicks:

"If your so pro-life, then instead of locking arms around abortion clinics, lock arms around cemeteries....let's see how committed you are to this fucking concept."

It's funny how pro-lifers also tend to be pro-death penalty, pro-war and pro-gun

The notion of "hyperreality" has nothing to do with semiotics but rather with post-structuralist butchering of it (the notion was devised by Lyotard). Nothing is an example of "hyperrality".
