Rob Moore, Chief Financial Officer of Murray Energy Company, which owns the mine: "Our managers communicated to our workforce that the attendance at the Romney event was mandatory, but no one was forced to attend"Since English is not my first language, I assume that my english teachers taught me the wrong meaning of Mandatory, because I always thought it means you had no choice if it is mandatory!

OP, mandatory pro-capitalist propaganda at the workplace is a very common practice. (at least in America)

Nope your English is spot on. Dumbass manager. Its funny how elections get so much hype, especially American elections. As if anything will actually change...

If enough members of one party get elected the flavor of exploitation we get might change ever-so-slightly.

When they say things like "mandatory, but not forced to attend", what they really mean is "we're using the implicit threat of unemployment and/or homelessness, but not physical violence (yet)".

I think it's pretty ballsy of the chief to say, it was mandatory but no one was forced to go in response to miners losing pay to go to this horseshit and think he could get away with it.
Like wow. Are you fucking serious?
