Here's something I've been interested in learning: just what is the general social and political statement piercings are intended to make? Tattooing is a similar phenomenon. My guess is that in our capitalist society of the isolated, alienated, degraded social individual, one meaning/purpose of these body decorations is that they say, "Hey! I'm somebody! I matter!"

I also see piercings as a rejection of current societal values.

Just curious. I'm an old fart and have but one teeny tattoo. My ancient, red-green best.
