I like judo, but the university judo club is ridiculously stereotypical "sport club" - so ridiculous drinking culture and sexism. I'm drunk after post-judo drinks and I'm just watching Star Trek. Although last night I watched a couple of Babylon 5 films, which should please you Jazzratt.

It's probably not really saying anything to point it out but shit like that is annoying. [This anecdote may not be getting at exactly the same thing, I don't really know] A couple of my friends are getting into a hobby that is largely male-dominated at when took them to a club dedicated to this hobby it didn't take long for a few of the members to make "jokes" about how unreal it was for women to be involved. These are the kind of people who manage to answer their own question when they say "why aren't there more women here."
I'm drunk after post-judo drinks and I'm just watching Star Trek. Although last night I watched a couple of Babylon 5 films, which should please you Jazzratt. I've only just got around to watching the films myself and I've only seen a couple (three if you count the pilot as a film, but I'd seen that before) - I'd probably have seen them all by now but I'm watching them as part of an attempt to see all of the episodes and films in the order they were intended. When I complete this (mammoth) task I might finally sit down and watch DS9 because that was the Trek series that always appealed most to me.

I'm a wee bit drunk. I've been drinking glögg, which is heated spiced wine that traces itself all the way back to the times of the Roman Empire (they used to drink it under something called the Saturnalia festivalities. not sure if they heated it though). We drink it traditionally during christmas but being an atheist I really didn't mind getting a headstart.

Well I have about half a handle of just regular UV vodka. About two and a half weeks ago my friend was going to sell a dub but the guy never showed up so he just put the weed in the vodka. So there's been a lot of weed just sitting in my vodka for two and a half weeks, it's all green, and I'm about to go drink it in a few with him. Anybody else ever do this before?

Fucking annoying. All I want to do is listen to the Doom and Doom II soundtrack. Is that too much to fucking ask? Fuck the fucking corner-cutting dipshits who dominate the internet service sector. Fuck you fuck you fuck you fuck you.
It's times like these when I would really like to let rip with the C-word, but this site has been infected with a particularly fucking stupid brand of persnickety Americanism - the genderisation of the word "****" used as an insult.
On the proper side of the pond it's used as a word to refer to terrible human beings, of either sex. Or as a dirty term for referring to female genitals.
But in the USA oh noooooooo, they had to take a perfectly good swearword and UTTERLY FUCKING RUIN IT by applying it mainly or exclusively to women. Fuck you Americans for doing that. And fuck the stupid fucking rules on this site that perpetuate that situation by applying an American standard to the usage of that word.
Now I am properly angry and want to drink more.

Healthy drugs? Caffeine and THC (but doesn't help with anxiety for me).
I think I need a break from drinking or something. It's usually fun at the time, but I end up sort of depressed or ashamed afterwards I guess. Not that I really do too much crazy stuff I just look back and say "That's not who I am. Why was a trying to 'fit in' or be accepted by other drunkards?"

Tonight I am drinking vodka in honor of Comrades Alexander Schliapnikov, Gavril Miazonov, Nikolai Bukharin (because he was right to oppose forced collectivization), Mikhail Tomsky because he would have been a much better GenSek than Stalin), Vladimir Ulianov-Lenin(for making the Revolution, unfortunately he screwed up in pretty short order), and saving the best for last Rosa Luxemburg, because she was born in Poland and they make fine wodka there.

Whenever I get drunk I always get extremely hungry. Why is that, does alcohol have some kind of property that stimulates appetite or something? Hmm.

Kinda, but if you go for something like Belvedere or Stolichnaya ('stoli' for short if you're ordering at a bar) you can pretty much drink it like water. I recommend a vodka-tonic with some lime juice in it. The citrus helps kill the alcohol taste. Shot of vodka, 4-6oz of tonic water, and lime juice to taste. Smirnoff tastes like shit but is drinkable on a budget. Svedka is a notch above smirnoff but still shitty. Bottom-rung would be Taaka and Barton. I can't drink those two period. They make me puke. Straight anyways, I'm sure with a decent mix it'd be okay. If you want something easy to drink and relatively cheap, go for Jim Beam bourbon (~$22 for 750mL) or maybe Captain Morgan spiced rum (same price ish, maybe a tad cheaper).

Eh you just have to understand the people down here. It's hard to explain unless you've spent a lot of time here, but don't think of it as people may disagree with your political views. Think of it like this, you need to walk the walk, and talk the talk, in a way that doesn't make people feel like you're an outsider, in a way that doesn't make people feel condescended towards and in a way that doesn't make people feel like you want to radically change their way of life (in a negative way).
I think that's a big reason why the people down here are more drawn to the 'good ole republican boys' like Bush, because they can walk the walk and talk the talk and make the people of the south feel like they're supporting their buddy Jim from down the street. What they don't want is a yuppie from Chicago or Philadelphia or New York patronizing them and saying the PC equivalent of "you're an idiot, I know how to run your life" (at least that's the way it's perceived due to cultural differences).
What it's going to really take to turn the south around and start a worker's movement here is people who are familiar with the culture of the south, can communicate in a way that appeals to people of the south, and in all likelihood, are actually from the south. It's gonna take us southern people to break the ice when it comes to building a worker's movement in the south, I think. Otherwise, it's a bit like a white dude from Mississippi trying to build a worker's movement in Guatemala. Not saying the white dude couldn't help, but ... most people would probably look at him like he's a crazy gringo who doesn't get it, even if he's saying the same thing as a Guatemalan communist the next town over who people are actually listening to because he's from there and knows how to talk to the locals. Ya dig?
Disclaimer: I'm totally not trying to sound like an asshole at all and I'm DEFINITELY not trying to say you're condescending/patronizing/a yuppie/etc. Your post just brought up a good point. I just think a lot of people underestimate the south. There's a big history of unionism here, even today especially in the oil and natural gas industries, as a testament to the potential appeal of a worker's movement here, and in general the south is a massive, untapped resource of potentially sympathetic people for an international worker's movement.

I can relate to this to an extent. To a certain point I feel this is the battle that all revolutionary leftists have in their backyards, but at the same time I feel that it could perhaps be a bit more challenging down in the southern us then it is for me up here in more liberal democratic Canada.

In all honesty, I feel like you're really touching on something that is important to address. While I don't posit to understand the situation down there (I say this come I'm from up north) I do feel like that many people are largely apathetic to politics (not just there, but people in general) and that many don't properly intellectually engage with the people and the platforms they represent, that they vote for. While it seems to an outsider that people in the southern us perhaps gravitate towards that strongman aesthetic, I feel that socialists could better pull off that aesthetic when talking about militantly ending your bosses ability to exploit the individual proletariat's surplus value (obviously it needs to be put in more accessible terms than that).

This is ultimately why I believe that the job of any communist is on his home terf, since as internationalists we realize that we each have a role to play everywhere and that people will most likely relate to those not only from their areas but also who understand the cultural values of the area (not to say that in the long run we don't want these petty differences to break down).

In all honesty if I was down in the south I probably would come across as a a condescending yuppie; mainly because I'm more of the sensitive university grad type. However I feel this raises a good point as well. It is ultimately a by product of the proletarian conditions, for the majority of the class to gravitate towards the politics that will result in their emancipation; this process needs to be sped up as fast as possible by those who have already achieved class consciousness. Thus we all are most valuable in the areas and cultures we understand; thus giving us the greatest ability to communicate to those in said areas.

Oh, definitely, it's applicable to virtually every locale in varying degrees. If I went to New York tomorrow I'd be looked at as a southern ... yokel, I suppose, and not taken seriously in an inverse interpretation of what I mentioned before. Likewise to my southern example, I'm sure there's equally difficult hurdles to overcome when addressing those from a liberal/social-democrat background.

It's definitely true that there's apathy everywhere. I hope this situation changes soon, and I think it will as the economy continues to remain stagnant and folks become disillusioned across the spectrum and at least become inquisitive (because I don't expect mass class consciousness to bloom in my lifetime ).

Hey what are your guys' thoughts on vodka?
I used to hate vodka and think it tasted like foul rubbing alcohol, but lately I've discovered that high-quality vodka is actually pretty good. I was only used to Monarch Vodka, which is cheap and disgusting and is what my parents drink. But Grey Goose (esp. out of the freezer, cold shots of vodka are pretty good) is actually quite good. Tastes kind of like harsh peppermint syrup in my opinion, better than whiskey.
It's kind of expensive, though.

To each there own. I find too, at least when it comes to heavy drinkers, some don't even care as much about the taste as they do the sensation. I have a buddy who to this day only drinks vodka cause he enjoys the somewhat of a burning sensation that you get down your chest after you drink it. I've always loved scotch cause I love the feeling of it warming up your stomach. Have you ever drank bourbon? It's fairly close to whiskey but just a tad bit sweeter in my opinion.

Well I'm pretty drunk and I forget if I totally hate the vodka or not. I think it was terrible but fuck it. I don't know man, god damn. I want to try shrooms so bad now. I don't know, but I love stairway to heaven but some people think its overrated or something. I don't know, I want to play black ops though, kill some fucking zombies.

Hey what are your guys' thoughts on vodka?
I actually hate vodka just for the simple fact that to me it literally tastes like water and no matter what I do or where I am somehow there is always vodka around me, I fucking hate it. Anyone who hates vodka though or says it tastes like cleaning products is revisionist scum.

When I lived in Texas I drank bourbon a lot. Bulleit Bourbon was one of my favorite brands.

I think vodka tastes like burny water, and I find it's the easiest spirit to drink in large quantities. I like bourbon and dark rum too, but I sip them slowly. I don't think a nice vodka would be as nice to drink neat for some reason.

Got invited out to a pub to hang out with some of my friends. The one who invited me is a girl that I used to hook up with and never quite fully got over, as bad as that sounds (given that I have a girlfriend). My social anxiety is kicking in like crazy, I'm going to have to have a couple glasses of scotch before, if I decide to go.

That's weird, I can't play FPS games for shit when I'm drunk. I was trying to play zombies on Black Ops 2 the other night hella drunk and me and my friend couldn't get past round 5 or 6, it was bullshit.
Last night it was like 1:30 in the morning and I picked up some weed for my friends hella drunk. I was walking back from where I got the weed and there were like 4 cop cars parked up and down the street with their lights on so I had to walk around and jump a couple fences. Didn't notice it when I was drunk but I got like fucking impaled by the fence in my stomach and it hurts like a motherfucker now and is all bruised.

I just thought I remembered her referring to herself as a male one time and seeing how you two were engaged came to the conclusion that he was gay. Knowing she was active in the occupation in NYC I assumed you two lived there and was happy that you two would legally be allowed to be married when gay marriage was legalized in NY. Apparently this whole narrative in my head was false, maybe I shouldn't read into stuff that much on here idk

So drunk. Went to this party, I feel hella bad. This dude's mom just died a couple weeks ago and he was there and he was going crazy he was so drunk. He's trying to fight with everybody, talking about how he's a dead man, saying that he's going to fight anybody so that they'll put him in the ground. He came up to me(and I hate the guy all the way back since 11th grade) saying that if anybody has funk with him tell him so that he can fight them. I was sober and could have easily beat him down but I felt so bad for the guy. Like damn he's looking for any reason to get hurt. We're at a bonfire in the middle of an orchard and he's trying to walk into the fire. Like damn my heart is broken for him even if I hate the guy.
On the good side my friend was just in a threesome lol had two girls on his arms I was so laughing, good for him. Right in a car.
