Oh yah. Saw this about a year or so ago. There was a film retrospective that the PSL put on and this was part of it.

Most of the film is about demonstrating the conditions of Cuba pre-revolution. I suppose that's ideological in its portrayal, but I don't see how that's "pure propaganda" (or even if it is, why that would be problematic)

It was a Russian film made explicitly to help sell the alliance with Cuba. Because of this certain things are exaggerated or romanticized or made "ideologically cleaner". Important to note, but it doesn't mean it can't also be an impressive film.
