I would seriously like to get da fuck out of Greece. I try it 2 years now, with top priority a coast on the land of the free, home of the brave but somehow someway it always kinda gets canceled. Where the fuck should I go?

Seriously? Consider yourself lucky that you live in such a beautiful country.

America is a shithole full of ghettoes and no sense of community or national identity at all. And, you should stay in Greece and fight the good fight. Greece is becoming an important battleground in the struggle against fascism and capitalism.

Cyprus? Turkey? Bosnia? Armenia?

Move somewhere cheap!

I've fantasized about moving to the Mediterranean before, to some obscure but close-knit and slower-paced place like Tunisia.

America is one of the largest countries in the world with one of the largest populations in the world, overall good standard of life and lots of regional variation. It's a lot easier to find awesome things and opportunities from there than Greece which is pretty small and isn't exactly doing great atm. I'd really prefer life there over life in Greece, your idea of the country doesn't really seem to have much in common with the reality in Greece.

not to mention that I really understand the need to just, fuck off from your current surroundings. The idea of living in one country for one's entire life seems incredibly dull to me and that's why I'm fucking off from Finland too, even though I don't really have anything against the country.

There are places in Canada where you can find a job and still be homeless because rent is too expensive. We also have a season called winter. Similar temps as in Greece, only with minus signs in front of them.

Barcelona was beautiful and bustling with cool people. And Barca fans that used their La Liga championship win to let off steam at the pigs. That was fun. :)

I'd love to go to San Sebastian, looks so beautiful and apparently the pintxos and food generally there are the best spanish food around.

This seems to be a trend, I've seen a huge influx of Greeks in the past 2 years over here in the Netherlands. But I wouldn't come here though. The weather is shit, the entire country (at least, the core) is a depressing mix of concrete, steel and glass and the countryside is endless muddy flatlands with the occasional cow thrown in. Also, the Netherlands is probably one of the most pacified and petit-bourgeois countries you'll encounter. Besides, it's not that easy to get a job (depending on your education) and I've seen many people who came here only a few years ago leave again.

If you did choose to go here I'd choose a small village or town in the south or east of the country where there's some forests and the (minor) cities aren't far off. But I'd choose Germany or the UK personally.

was very tempted to do this. If I wasn't following a career path that already requires a mandatory extra year anyway, I'd definitely have saved up for a year to do a Masters in the Netherlands.

Think Denmark is pretty big for this as well, cheap Masters degrees. It's impossible to get funding in the UK, like 4 grand plus for a masters'. Fuck that :(

Don't. The recently introduced 'langstudeerboete' (a fine of about 3000 euros for each year of study you do which exceeds the set norm) combined with the increased regular tuition fees, bad student housing in the big cities as well as tightened regulations around full class attendance make studying here a really unpleasant and stressful affair. I guess all in all its still cheaper than the UK but its far from the land of milk and honey :p

There is a sizeable manufacturing plant in town, they constantly hire, new employees usually start at minimum wage, but there is lots of overtime available, and you get good healthcare and a week's paid vacation, they have higher paying positions, but I dunno how hard it is to land those. The chicken industry is also huge here, there are two major chicken companies in the area (mountaire and perdue) who have plants, and they are also constantly hiring. I don't know as much about the conditions there, but I think its easier to get a high paying spot with them, but the work is much shittier. (I mean, its a death factory for chickens, so, yeah)

Average 1-2 bedroom apartments are around 600-700 a month, you can find 1 bedrooms for about 500 a month pretty easily if you look. Gas is around $3.70 a gallon, and you can get a beer at the bar for $2.

There isn't much to do in the way of culture (no museums, no galleries, no skatepark etc), but there is a community college, and a university, as well as a mall. We're about 25 minutes from the beach, which has a huge population during the summer (and gets cooler things, like art shows and stuff).

It varies, usually a few thousand$ per semester.Bluedata in NYC cost about $1000 a semester.

http://www.englishschoolnyc.com/offer/432239/esl-classes-only-%24990-for-1-semester.html

I've known people who "study" at EF International in Boston for years, just to keep their student visa current.
http://www.ef.com/us-home/

I think they're a bit pricey though.

Bunker Hill Community College near Boston is cheap for regular classes, around 1000 USD for int'l students, I believe. They may require you to take the TOEFL test but that shouldn't be a problem.

http://www.bhcc.mass.edu/inside/1015

With a student visa I believe you're allowed to work 20 hours a week.
