Why do Americans always make fun of Canada so much? Canada seems like a much better place to live than the States (if you disregard weather as a factor). So many Americans that I know make fun of Canada to such an extent that it's no longer a joke but instead a truth - if i call them out on their bullshit they usually say 'no canada is actually like that every american knows'.
Also they're much better at ice hockey, which is really the only acceptable way to measure a nation's superiority.

Because, like Russia and Greenland , it incorporates a shit-ton of barren, uninhabited tundra. Because nobody else wanted it.
Canada is better in every way including the weather. Hot and humid is not fun.
It's funny because my Canadian friends complain about the humidity in the summer while I in California (and everyone else who lives on the arid half of the US) almost never have to deal with humidity.

For many years, our government hasn't been friendly enough with Asia-Pacific countries, not just China, to the point of pissing off said US political "class." Otherwise, our trade infrastructure would be vastly improved by now. All the government and business conferences of diversity trade mean squat, with no money in the corresponding mouths.

In some areas of the USA there really isn't much difference. Like Alaska, where I live. Probably Vermont, too.
But really I've only spent most time in the Yukon, British Columbia etc. Never even set foot in Toronto or Montreal, largest city I've been to in Canada is probably Calgary.

I had bagged milk in elementary school ... they gave it to us for lunch. You had to jam a straw into a foil patch like a Capri Sun, but it didn't always work right and at least one person each lunch would make their milk bag explode because they jammed the straw in too hard / missed the spot / magic.

I was thinking more long term with the rise of China, the economic leverage China exercised was enough to shut up Harper after his anti-china tirade and will continue to broaden in the future as raw materials are exploited and the US declines relative to china economically.

Canadian politics aren't nearly as nationalistic or pro-war as America's. However, thanks to the Conservatives, Canada is becoming more and more like the US, more submissive to the demands of NATO. Canada is switching from social democracy to state capitalism.

I'd say the niceness vs standoffishness is more of a regional thing. The american I met when I live back home we're total arrogant assholes who would complain about having to receive canadian change when making a purchase. The americans I've met in southern ontario though are very nice. The frigid thing is true though, it feels like sweden sometimes here.
