Does anyone here play or dabble in World of Darkness games? Which one is your favourite? What are your thoughts on the mid-00's revision? etc. etc. Personally, I've had a lot of fun with Mage: the Ascension (not Awakening - haven't tried it, from what I've read it's not good) and have read a bunch of Vamp books. I honestly don't have a good reason, but somehow I've managed to never really get into Werewolf. Would anyone recommend it?

Also, I'm looking to see if anyone on here would be interested in a WoD game (preferably Vampire, but I keep an open mind) over an IM (Skype or something). I'm not good with play-by-post stuff, so IMs would really be preferable to me. We would also need a Storyteller for this.

I've played games from both iterations and read nearly all of the books in the old vampire, old werewolf [if I ever find copies of the Changing Breeds: Anansi and Book of the Weaver that are text only, no art, I will be able to finish them all], new vampire and new "generic" lines. I've only really played old vampire, old hunter, new vampire, old mage, (old, I guess) demon and new mortals - the most fun I think was old vampire but I'm not necessarily some screeching grognard who thinks requiem is irredeemably shite. To be honest the new world of darkness, with its modular philosophy, is a huge design improvement over the horrible mess that was oWoD's new-and-slightly-different-rules-for-everyone approach which made game balance a right bastard. Plus running non-hunter, totally mundane mortal investigators is a much more viable option. I've just not had as much fun playing it, I guess.

I only played Ascension twice: once when I was much younger and didn't have the faintest clue of what it was about and once when I was older and having a bit of a laugh. Both times I was ST and both times I found the crunch to be a horrible broken mess: say what you want about the fuckawful fluff of Awakening at least it's less easy for devious players (and I've only ever had devious players) to smash into tiny pieces. Werewolf is all a bit tree-huggy for me, I always wanted to just play a big murderous hairy tank-beast and the game seems to want you to play some patronisingly racist stereotype of a native American.

Skype won't run on my ancient, coal-fired PC (last upgraded May 2004) but most text based IMs work as does the roll20 (http://roll20.net/) virtual tabletop which has all kinds of cool features. I'm already running a game (Dark Heresy) with friends IRL so I don't want to take on ST responsibilities but I'm always up for playing vampire.

I play WoD Vampire Requiem. It's really fun because my friends are perfect for this game (they're playing like they are in an awesome movie or something).

Anyway if you want there are some forums with different stories (from other STs) so you can use them or just get inspired. Also you can download Vampire The Masquerade-Bloodlines. It's the exact same game on a PC (it's older than Requiem though). You can get ideas of how to play or get ideas for stories. Hope I helped :)

I only played WoD once and none of us had a strong grasp on the concepts and rules yet. But thanks to some ambiance (Sunn O))) and Earth and Boris' Absolutego played over uncommonly good speakers) and an extremely talented GM it was one of the most intense games I've played.
