"A man was shot in the head at an apartment building in Port St. Joe, Florida, by another tenant who remarked to police that he was unsure why they were arresting him because he "only shot a ni**er." The man survived the attack and is in the hospital. The trouble began when the alleged shooter, Walton Henry Butler, 59, was shouting racial expletives at a group of black children. The children are said to have reported this to their parents, and Everett Gant, 32, went to confront Walton...".

How come? Statistics on the subject still show that racially motivated violence remains a problem - in order for that violence to exist people have to be pretty damn racist. News like this depresses me or makes me angry but it never really surprises me. The world is full of prize shitzeppelins like this.

He said he was unsure why he was being arrested, considering that he "only shot a nigger". This is a direct quote, an example of mention as opposed to use, there is no reason to pretend Victoria is still Queen in Buckingham.

Yes, but nowadays they usually try and pretend that the violence has nothing to do with race. An outright confession of racist motive is weird. And even the most outspoken racists do know that the police does arrest people who shoot at blacks; his "surprise" about that is either fake or clueless.
