View Full Version : Problem With Firefox

For whatever reason, everything on every website when I look at it through Firefox is bolded. Even as I am typing this, it is coming out in bold. Does anyone know how to fix this? I first noticed this when I came back from vacation last week. My younger brother was on my computer and he downloaded some games or whatever. He however doesn't use Firefox, so I don't know what caused this.

I looked through Google and it keeps bringing up something about downloading a new font package or whatever. However, that did nothing for me.

Any help would be appreciated.

Bolded as in the System Font?
Have you tried reinstalling over your existing copy of Firefox, so as not to lose your current settings?

Can you screenshot what you are seeing?

Maybe you accidentally the zoom: Ctrl-minus / Ctrl-plus

If not that, then check the font settings. Firefox>Preferences>Preferences>Content

Under Font/Colors, check the font, mine's Helvetica 16 (yours may be set smaller, I have a 1080p monitor). Hit advanced, make sure 'allow pages to choose their own fonts' is ticked and nothing looks funky in the settings.

That isn't doing anything for me. PC LOAD LETTER

I've attached an image of what I see. Notice how everything is bold. If I can't fix it, I guess I'll just uninstall Firefox and download it again.

Download and reinstall these M$ core fonts, in particular Arial, Times New Roman, Verdana

If reinstalling Firefox doesn't work, run a virus scan and/or a system repair utility.

Sometimes updated video card drivers give Firefox fits, so you could try disabling hardware rendering.

Tools > Options > Advanced > General Tab > Uncheck "Use hardware acceleration when available"

Restart Firefox.

None of this worked. Not even uninstalling and then reinstalling Firefox.

It's probably an issue with your settings. Firefox stores these in a profile. On Windows Vista and Windows 7, profile folders are in this location, by default:
C:\Users\<Windows login/user name>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<profile folder>.

The AppData folder is a hidden folder; to show hidden folders, open a Windows Explorer window and choose "Organize → Folder and Search Options → Folder Options → View (tab) → Show hidden files and folders".

Close down Firefox and put the profile folder in a different location and start Firefox again. You should see a vanilla startup and test if the issue still occurs. If it doesn't, you can still recover most information from your profile (like bookmarks and passwords) to your new profile. Follow this how to (http://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Recovering%20important%20data%20from%20an%20old%20 profile) in recovering it.

This didn't help, same issue.

This didn't help, same issue.

Does the issue only occur with Firefox? If so, try another account (you could best create a new test account on Windows, just to test this issue and be sure you have clean settings). If the issue also occurs there, it must be something systemwide. If not, it is something in your useraccount (but which isn't in the profile then, good luck hunting for that).

I just got on Firefox through the guest account and the same problem occurred.

I just checked Google Chrome and Internet Explorer, and for some reason everything is italicized, and on Revleft, unread threads aren't in bold.

You definitely have a systemwide issue then :)

Dunno Windows that much to say anything conclusive about it, but at least we know the direction in which to look for now.

Isn't this the usual prelude to trouble?

You may want to use the System Restore, if it is enabled, to roll back to a date prior to the events quoted above.

It definitely sounds like a system font issue. One thing that might be worth doing is to transfer the entire fonts folder from a known good windows installation. Just copy and the fonts will (re)install automatically.

If it is a system-wide issue, then why does it only effect my web browsers? Nothing else is bold, or italicized unnecessarily. Not documents in word, or anything else.

Open up Firefox. At the top left you'll noticed a Firefox button. After pressing it a drop down box will show you an option tab. The option tab will show an option button, press it. A window will pop up with tabs running across the top, click on Content. From there you should be able to play with your font sizes & styles.

I can't help on this issue really but I stopped using FF some time ago, now I use the browser 'Opera', I find it to be quick and easy to use with no problems experienced so far.

Maybe it's time for a change?
