You can never get used to being locked up in a county jail for anything longer than a weekend. To back track a bit I got myself put away on the strangest of DUI cases. I dont drink because when I do shit like this happens. Only this time I hadn't drank. I got busted after having fallen asleep at the wheel and bumped into another (parked) car whilst on Ambien. Yup, a DUI! Whatever. After 30 days and no O.R. because they filed it as a hit and run (later dropped), this is what I saw.
6 man cells in a 11ft by 14 ft cell. 22 hour a day lock down. Sun privileges, yes the Sun, 1 hour a week, maybe. You piss and shit in your cell in front of all the guys. You say yes sir, please sir, thank you sir, to these effin' Nazis Deputies just to get the basics like soap and toilet paper. You wanna call home? Your people better set up an account with the one company that runs telecommunications for the entire system "for profit". How 'bout a toothbrush? $3.00 unless you align yourself with one of the races and then the homies will find you one, maybe used. Food? 2,000 calories, maybe. two hot meals and dinner served "in cell" as a sack lunch. All meat is Soy or Tube Turkey. Your people want to send you stamps and envelopes? Think again. The Man knows a good scam when he sees one, you gotta buy 5 at a time from him, at a small profit! Why is your snot black? Just look at the vents, or is it because the floor above is shut down with black mold. Toilet backed up flowing with shit? Give it ten hours and maybe it'll fix itself.
Men in cages, most of whom merely need to kick dope and find work. This ain't prison, its County and this place was not set up for long term housing. So long as those outside pretend to know nothing, and those who profit are allowed to do so then everyone can take a big chunk of blame.
Fucking waste of a month.

^I have only ever been to Juvie Detention on a possession charge back when I was 15 but even there I saw the same type of shit. I have many friends and family that have spent long times behind bars and when they get out they seem very different (like not right in the head).

The charges of my cellies were, 2 counts attempted murder, 2 counts kidnapping, Trafficking and minor parole violations. Most will spend a year or two awaiting trial in that fucking dungeon.

Interesting? Hardly. More like a goddamn ass beating, with a hefty fine to boot. I wouldn't wish this shit on a trot!

On a side note I did manage to gamble up extra apples and cookies so that I could supplement my work out. I got HUGE.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

I'm sorry that happened to you.

Don't be sorry for me. Shit, be sorry for the man or woman that loses everything because the Judges, D.A.'s and the Jail/Prison industry has been able to corner the market and profit from human suffering.

One of my close friends spent four months in county a while back. He had a similar experience ...

That's honestly insane. How the fuck did you get 30 days in there? Are you going to try to do anything about it, or just say fuck it and be glad its over?

There is nothing I could do. As I was charged with a DUI hit and run my bail was $25,000. I got no family, save for a roommate and I dont memorize phone numbers. Thats my cell phones job. I dont have money for bail so I gotta take what they give. This story plays out a million times a day, all over the world. I got off easy.

One thing I did see that was very cool was the Hammer and Sickle scrawled on a wall and the words "Occupy Everything". Also "Real Comrades Fight Fascist!", see the skinheads call each other "comrade". Assholes.
