Hello everyone --
I'm very happy to have found this site. I've been a progressive for a quite a while, and about 6 months ago I took a trip to East Berlin and was fascinated and deeply moved by what I saw and experienced. I learned a lot about how the West inherited a lot of cheap labor after the wall fell and how that is the basis for Germany's avoidance of the current world economic recession. I also learned about The U.S.S.R. and the Stalinist appropriation of reparations being perhaps the core reason why people were fleeing East Germany. When I got back home to CA I was compelled to begin reading and learning. I now consider myself a Marxist after reading Marx, Engels, D'Amato, Trotsky, and watching plenty of videos and lectures on WeAreMany, and Richard Wolff.
I find myself in a precarious position. I am from a very well off Petty Bourgeoius Family -- my parents are both doctors and I live in a wealthy area....but as a Marxist I obviously detest Capitallism and find myself increasingly disgusted with the various processes of capitalism. I currently work for a Corporation because it's safe. I worry that I won't be able to find something that will allow me to be comfortable, and it's difficult for my family to understand my current state of mind. I find myself having a lot of fruitless discussions with people who don't care to know the truth or with people who are basically reactionaries -- I don't see it as fruitless but it IS nice to finally come somewhere where I can grow ideologically.
I just have a basic question for anyone reading this: What do you do to make money? We have to live in this capitalist world after all... it might help me relate if you also come from a backround that would typically put you on the side of Reaction..I'd very much like to hear from someone who understand..but it'd be nice to hear from anyone. Many people think I'm crazy but I see beyond myself and my 'comforts' (daily life is still wage slavery and the product of my labor does not belong to me). I consider myself a Philosophical Determinist and an Overdeterminist (Marxian Economics).
Thank you comrades!
