Yesterday israeli finance minister Netanyahu said on his speech in Hertzeliya that "the arabs in the [occupied] territories are not a danger to Israel, the israeli arabs are. In a few years 40% of the population might be arabs, and that would be the end of the jewish state".
First of all, this data is incorrect according to statistics, which shows that in term of 10 years the arabs in Israel will probably be 21% of the population. That didn't prevent racist professors from calling for a "strong birth planning in the muslim population".
Netanyahu's speech comes on the background of a growing economical crisis and a growing protest movment. Thousands of the israeli public service workers are in a half-strike today - they come to work but do nothing. Recently 3,500 of them demonstrated infront of the finance minister office. If it wasn't for the terrible leadership of the unions, there was a general strike already. And Netanyahu fears that.
So to prevent a jewish-arab partnership against capitalism, he calls for racism. It will also make the jews of israel - from all classes - unite against the "real threat". When people feel in they are in an immidiate danger they don't mind giving up their food.
Our answer is a constant arab-jewish struggle againgst the racism, the occupation and the rule of the rich. Today there is a demo of Peace Now - "Get out of the occupied territories! Stop the war!". On saturday, a demo of an organizations coalition against the settlements in E. Jerusalem.
And this is where I call you, people around the world, to show your solidarity with the people of the middle east. I call you to renew the movment against the occupation of Iraq and Palestine, against Zionism and against Imperialism.
