A spokesman for the Palestinian militant movement Hamas has criticised a visit by a Palestinian official to the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz.
Fawzi Barhoum reportedly said the visit by Ziad al-Bandak, adviser to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, was "unjustified and unhelpful".
He also called the Holocaust an "alleged tragedy", media reports say.
Hamas spokesmen have previously expressed the view that the Holocaust is a fabrication.
More than a million people were killed at Auschwitz, among them some of the estimated 6 million Jews killed in the Nazi genocide during World War II.
Mr Bandak visited the camp late last month and paid his respects there to the dead.
Mr Barhoum is quoted in media reports as saying the visit is at "the expense of the true Palestinian tragedy".
A comment piece published by the Hamas-run Filastin newspaper also criticised Mr Bandak's visit.
"What is the wisdom in such a simple step that supports the Jews and their crimes?... Neither the Jews nor we believe that Hitler killed six millions Jews," the article read.
In 2009 the Hamas-led administration in the Gaza Strip resisted attempts to introduce lessons about the Holocaust in UN-run schools.
The historical truth of the Holocaust is often disputed in countries where it is seen as a tool used by Israel to justify its actions.
The leadership of Hamas is good at continually proving that they really are, deep down, reactionary fucks. Holocaust denial is an insane position to take regardless of one's position on the state of Israel. It also plays right into the hands of rightwing militarists in Israel who want to spread fear of Arabs when the ancestors of so many Israelis lost their lives.

Hamas has always been very open about how reactionary it is. They've always been a holocaust denying ultra-conservative organization.
Its the leftist hypocrites who've been supporting them who are deep down reactionary.

I agree but there seems no end of leftists (including some on this forum) who seem to give their reaction a pass and embrace them for their anti-Zionism. I've never been able to understand it myself. It's like its totally ok to be an insane religious fanatic as long as you don't believe in the state of Israel.

You don't understand? Tried the most simple explanation? Poke many an anti-imp deep enough and stuff about Jews and banks and global domination and all the other old unabashed anti-semitism rolls out. Sure maybe they will say them Jews eat Palestinian babies instead of Christian ones but for the rest its the same old same old.
Sure the occupation and apartheid are horrible crimes against humanity but let's be honest, those kind of crimes most anti-imps are selectively outraged by at best, where no jews to rant about as much toss was given as about the kurds, the tamils, the chechens...

Ranting about Palestine has nothing to do with Jews. In fact I would argue that the reason that the other war crimes that you mention don't get much attention is because over here in America the right wing doesn't bend over backwards to defend the perpetrators. Here you have people claiming that all Palestinians are terrorists, that they attacked the Israeli's so they have to seize more land, that as Mitt Romney said "culture makes all the difference" when asserting that the economic differences have nothing to do with the occupation. I could go on for paragraphs and paragraphs of all the horrible things that the United States will do to defend the war crimes in Palestine, and the profits that are gained from Zionism, but I won't. So please stop calling me and my tendency "anti-semetic deep down" okay, because its pretty tiring to hear that after I actively take to fighting anti-semetism around me.

A gridlock...
Hamas, the non-corrupt ones, are totally religious, populist and unilaterally will never accept Israel, so they can't be taken serious.
Fatah, corrupt as fuck, nothing works with them, collaborationist paid regularly by Usa and EU after Paris Pledge, is the voice in the negotiations but doesn't actually hold any power to negotiate things.
Israel government, a unicameral parliamentary system as fucked as Weimar republic, the population is divided, the leadership is weak and american boot licking, the political scenery is taken by immobility, their post-00's strategy is incoherent, the israeli leftists are actually more concerned by how people see them (and the jews as whole, pushing a stupid anti-nationalist rhetoric) than real internal objectives, haredis don't serve in the IDF, etc... Way in the past are the years when Israel manipulated Britain and France during Suez Crisi or when they defeated they defeated a country more than ten times it size in only six days.
In the regional sphere...
Egypt got a "democratic" revolution even though 40% of the population can't read or write.
Iran expanded, expanded, with coups in Iraq, with militias in Lebanon, with collaboration in Syria, until they stalled and now they have enemies on all sides, specially Afghanistan, while their friends are China and Russia, both which only consider money as friend.
Does anyone is still surprised by OP news? This shit will last forever, it's like these guys enjoy suffering and conflict.
Nuclear bomb middle east, all problems resolved.

Not discussing the other things you said, which would be silly, the same as religious discussions; Usa is the world largest oil and gas consumer by very far...
If they didn't pursued this strategy in Middle East- collaboration with Saudi and Kuwait, and alliance with Israel- the country would simply crumble.
The Usa did horrible things in Latin America thanks to Monroe Doctrine and Cold War but I never saw any north american feeling so bad about their country intervention in Latin America as they feel with Middle East, to the point of blaming a fictitious jewish lobby and not a strategic necessity.

Why is what's important though, without materialism and understanding of history and how things come about this kind of shallow analysis carries racist, orientalist and culturalist implications with distastrous consequences.

It's not for racism or orientalism, it's for geographical and resource reasons: a land able to control the trade between African, Europe and Asia, with the biggest oil reserves in the world, is recipe for trouble.
Nuclear bomb and terraform the region in the same way soviets created the lake Chagan in Kazakhstan, make it a free trade region controlled by UN and done, we can even call it the Levantine sea. World peace at least.
It will even push the world for the adoption of more adequate fuel/energy technologies like eletricity, solar, wind and bio-diesel.

How do you get the idea that innovation of renewable energy resources comes from blowing millions of innocent people to dust and turning a large portion of the world into an unihabitable wasteland?

Just to clarify, what about the millions of people that would die? Millions of workers, I might add. What about them?

Not to derail or anything but there are some serious issues to be had with the PKK, The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and the Chechen resistance as well. And not just from a "oppose all national liberation" standpoint.
I don't really buy the secret antisemites line though. Sure, it might be true for some, others are just being "tactical". Just as Mossad were when they funded Hamas to counterbalance the PLO.

Same as leftists who give murderous, often reactionary regimes a pass and embrace them for their anti-imperialism.

I thought people knew Hamas blames everything vaguely left wing from the french revolution (and you have to be very vague at that point) to the PFLP on jews.
