You know a drug is pretty fucked up when even the dealers don't want it sold anymore.

it probably has more to do with the social conditions it create which draw more police attention but id like to think it has some concern aspect too.

Well after all, even vicious gangsters have mothers.

How long can a big time crack user expect to live in such a slum ?
This move might be more about long term sustainability as customers might die off.

Not too long. Just search "cracolândia" on YouTube and you'll get a hint.

The police also conducts regular "cleaning" operations on these places, kicking the drug users out of sight, since the cracolândias are in the middle of the city centres, "polluting" areas that could be expensive real estate points.
The police also runs death squads, so when someone big wants a place like this clean, the police does a chacina. That means some officers drive up, shoot five or six people and get out. Sometimes they don't event take the bodies away, so that other users are scared.

But the disturbing peek inside the dark underworld of a crack den at Antares favela at night, perhaps also a reminder that for all the efforts to drive crack from the slums, those looking for a quick fix might always be able to find it somewhere.Drug Control 101

True, meth is even a worse drug yet you dont see dealers quitting selling that.
