Hello everyone, i was invited by a good friend of mine to this site. I think a short introduction is in order :)

- Where are you from, whats the leftist scene there like? I from the south western United States. The leftist scene where i live is practically nonexistent. There is a small, but vocal minority of democrats, whether they count as leftist is another thing. Perhaps we can say they're left of the tea party.

- What branch of leftism do you subscribe to? Champagne Socialism.

- How did you become a leftist?
becoming a leftist has been going on for all my life, but i would say being a student of history, and my time in the army contributed to it. I think reading the bible too, when i was younger also helped.

I've heard the phrase, but I've never heard anyone identify themselves with it. I always understood it as an insulting term to use for rich people hypocritically claiming to be socialists and not actually caring about the proletariat, but I could be mistaken.

Anyway, welcome cofresi, and feel free to set me straight on your use of the term "champagne socialist".

Hi Landsharks yep you got it. I first heard champagne socialist when i heard Sean Hannity using it to describe democrats, and i'm like what the hell does he know what a socialist is. Then i went to wikipedia and read the entry, its an insult used to describe a middle class socialist, and i'm like well i guess that's me. :cool:
