My user name is Doremus Jessup, not of course my real name in case any moderator is wondering, just in case, it's the name of the main character in Sinclair Lewis's anti-fascist novel It Can't Happen Here.

Where are you from, and what's the leftist scene there like? I'm currently in Pahrump, NV, and there is pretty much no leftist scene at all out here. As far as the left goes there are a handful of progressive Democrats... and then there is me. Most of the political scene out here is dominated by the right-wing and the extreme right-wing.

What branch of leftism do you subscribe to? I generally call myself a Trotskyist, but I'm not really dogmatic about it.

How did you become a leftist? It's been a while. I think it was when I was a teenager and read several of George Orwell's books and the Communist Manifesto in college.

Why Trotskyism? I read Orwell's 'Animal Farm' and 'Homage to Catalonia' when I was a teenager, and they no doubt biased my reading choices. So I've read some of Trotsky, and I mostly like what he has to say. I disagree with Stalin, and mostly think he was a bad guy.

I'm familiar with tendency wars... they seem mostly to be a waste of time to me. I hope to avoid them mostly, since there are far more important matters to concern myself with. :)
