Who said good old fashioned racism was dead? What is wrong with these people, I feel like they must must have grown up in some isolated town of 45 people.

De jure, no it's not legal, and the church may experience some backlash since it's been on the news. But, open racism like this is common here in the South, at least in the smaller towns. You may remember this a few years back (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jena_Six)

I'd love to see some weatherman-esque retaliation here, but maybe that's just me talking big.

Good news. BBC has taken up this story (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-19047475), it will get wider coverage, hopefully something will come out of it.

Why are people surprised? The South is just as segregated as it was in 1967, it's just not legally enforced on the same level.

Ignorant people in India and much of the third world idolize the US, not knowing its dark side.
