So I'm trying to go to Japan soon but this will be my first time traveling by plane to another country so I have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to buying tickets. So to you all who have experience with international travel (especially if it is to japan), how do I go about finding cheap tickets out of the midwest? Most of the tickets I have seen have been about $1600 round trip and while I will probably be able to afford it, to make sure I can afford it in case something comes up with work I would like to find cheaper. However the only cheap ones I can find are out of NYC and I would prefer not to have to travel there.

As a seasoned traveler, the only really useful piece of advice I can give you is this:
If you get a seat window on the plane, do not open it; the wind will muss your hair.

When I went to Melbourne I flew to LAX, then to Melbourne. It was around $1700 round-trip. I was only in Los Angeles for a couple of hours, maybe 2 or 3.

I want to go japan someday for Judo. Your best best is to try and find the long way round, you can get flights where you stop at like 6 different places for pretty cheap.
There are a number of cheap flight sites, but as we are from different places its stupid for me to reccomend any.
Japan is awesome, hope you don't spend all your days fapping to Anime porn though.
