Spanish Farmers Action

1,000 landless farmers marched on to the military base property of the Defence ministry in Andalusia, Spain, 100 kilometers from Seville. 100 landless farmers have been occupying 1,200 hectares of military property since this Tuesday in a region of Spain that is suffering over 40% unemployment. The goal of the occupation is to give the workers the land, not as property, but to collectively work on. Organizer of this action has mainly been the andalusian workers union SAT with support from the Mayor of the "communist village" of Marinaleda, Juan Manuel Sanchez Gordillo (who also sits for the "United Left" party in the regional parliament of Andalusia). The regional government looks likely to concur in not expanding the military base and letting the workers move their co-operative farms on the unused land.

I've read up on Marinaleda before and liked what I read.

As for this development, I'm thrilled. Hopefully they get their wish. I really want to visit Spain, but have no money.
