On more recent viewing, not so much..

For me it was Moonwalker. I watched that VHS dozens of times when I was little (loved the music videos and the whole 'transformers' element). But now when I watch it I'm just struck by what a massively self-involved, tedious, non-sensical mess it is...the movie part at least, some of the vids are still great.

One movie that comes to mind is "Passage to Marseille" with Humphrey Bogart:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Passage_to_Marseille

I saw it when I was kid and loved it. When I saw it again as an adult I found it pretty stupid.

For example, there is a final scene of a battle between the escaped prisoners of Devil's Island on a ship and a surfaced U-Boat wherein the great Peter Lorre is killed. When I first saw it I thought "Wow!" it even brought me to tears. On second viewing it appeared hokey and Lorre's acting was way, way over the top, even for a film made in 1944!

On the other hand, there is a great film directed by John Huston, with Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart and Edward G. Robinson: "Key Largo".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Key_Largo_%28film%29

That movie, for all its limitations, gets better for me every time I watch it.

Air Force One

Hijackers seize the plane carrying the President of the United States and his family, but he (an ex-soldier) works from hiding to defeat them.

This movie used to play 4-5 times every years in Finland, and i watched it every time. I can't even watch it anymore.
Used to call it my favourite movie. Now my favourites are "A Clockwork Orange" and "Full Metal Jacket"

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Pretty much the entire new trilogy, really. I'm pretty much exactly the age where I kind of grew up along the movies; I mean yeah come on, The Phantom Menace is basically a children's movie and I was seven when it came out. Episode 2 was less so, episode 3 a lot less so. And I liked every one of those movies a lot when they came out, but then I rewatched them in a few years and holy shit they were crap.

Yeah I liked the new Star Wars films when they came out, but they really are terrible. I can't bear to watch Jar Jar Binks at all. I don't know what the fuck Lucas was thinking when he made that character.

The first star wars movie is fun pulpy sci-fi with excellent special effects. The second one isn't quite as good. From there on out, pure shit.

The Lion King. I'll let cracked.com explain:

The "villain":

In one of Disney's finest rip-offs (http://www.cracked.com/article_17299_6-famous-characters-you-didnt-know-were-shameless-rip-offs.html) to date, The Lion King hyenas were the mangy lowlifes who tried to kill Simba, assisted in the assassination of Mufasa and utterly destroyed the Pride Lands after helping Scar take over as king. Jesus, what is those assholes' problem?

http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/5/1/3/40513.jpg?v=1
Hyenas, chief douchebags of the Serengeti.

Hold on a minute there:

They want something to eat. That's their problem, and it's only a problem because Mufasa banished them from the Pride Land and forced them to live in an elephant graveyard, which is no place to raise a child, hyena or otherwise. We never know why they were banished to the Pride Slums, leaving us to assume Mufasa's unedited explaination of the Circle of Life went something like this:

Mufasa: Everything you see exists together, in a delicate balance. As king, you need to understand that balance, and respect all the creatures-- from the crawling ant to the leaping antelope.

Simba: But Dad, don't we eat the antelope?

http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/5/1/4/40514.jpg?v=1
Mufasa: Yes, Simba, but let me explain. When we die, our bodies become grass. And the antelope eat the grass. And so we are all connected in the great Circle of Life.

Simba: Wow... Say, Dad, where do the hyenas fit into the great Circle of Life?

Mufasa: Ugh, the hyenas. No, f#@k those guys.

Simba: Yeah, that's fair.

That's the only way to explain how Scar got an entire army of these animals behind him with such dissident slogans as "Stick with me, and you will never go hungry again!" Scar wasn't promising them unlimited power, just the ability to eat and function as members of society. The hyenas were pissed because the oppressive lion regime had reduced them to second-class citizens, hoarding all the pie for themselves.

http://i.crackedcdn.com/phpimages/article/5/1/5/40515.jpg?v=1
Hooray for racism!

No wonder they followed Mufasa's brother. What Scar offered the hyenas was a revolution of the common man. He was more or less their four-legged Lenin.

I'm of the position that besides the first film, Star Wars is incredibly overrated. And Star Wars was a major part of my childhood obsessions, but I thought Attack of the Clones sucked even when I was a kid. However, after re-watching Revenge of the Sith, I honestly think the showing of the fall of Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader was pulled off pretty well. It was thoroughly entertaining for what it's worth.

I remember being young and thinking Star Wars Episode 1 and 2 sucked. I thought the only good moment was when Yoda fought, because I found it hilarious.

Then Episode 3 came out, and.. and... I actually liked it..

Similiar experience with Resevoir Dogs, watched it constantly when I was 12 / 13, now I know it so well that I find it hard to enjoy.

I think everyone who is in their late 20's, early 30's has this problem with Tarantino films. Just watched them to death when we were teenagers. Don't even mention his new films, he writes the same characters over and over and his dialogue would be laughable in a comic from the 1950's. Maybe someone should tell both him and George Lucas that art is a young man's game.

Personally, the film 'Adaptation' with Meryl Streep and Nick Cage springs to mind. When I first seen it, it was a revelation. I watched it recently and could'nt believe how crap it was. I must have been high or something.

P.s. All Christopher Nolan films.

Still love the movie just find it harder to enjoy because I watched sooo fucking much when I was a kid. If I give myself a few years between viewings it's better.

Pink - "I tagged a couple of cops, you kill anybody?"
White - "Just a few cops"
Pink - "No real people?"
White - "Just cops"

Kill Bill. Actually, all of Tarantino's movies. They're not bad; they're simply a bunch of homages intertwined together. Nothing original.

There's movies like Jason X that I loved seeing in theaters, but watching it recently made me realize I enjoy it in one of those "its so terrible I like it" sort of ways.

Donnie Darko. A lot of kids I went to school with liked it and thought it meant they had impeccable taste and were extremely pretentious because they saw and quoted this dumb movie.

Ditto with Monty Python and the Holy Grail (The Meaning of Life was better)

I thought it was a decent movie, but the fans ruined it for me. It's entertaining, but I don't see how someone (or 90%+ of the people who watch it) could take the story as being some profound, emotionally jarring statement (about nothing)

I'll call it the Boondock Saints Effect. Named after the first movie I observed with this effect. All these people with otherwise shitty movie taste, watch a mediocre (but entertaining and somewhat higher quality than what's usually in theaters) movie. Then they become obsessed, and it becomes a sort of religious experience because they've never seen anything other than summer blockbuster action flicks and shallow romantic comedies. And Saw. They've seen Saw. Whereas it's really just a decent movie, and that's it. Nothing amazing, nothing special.

That scene always has me laughing, Esp considering how White left that girl Orange shot to die after stealing her car.

I didn't even realize until a month ago that the guy who produces that show was an uber Zionist, Haim Saban.

I haven't seen The Meaning of Life in its entirety. I tried to watch it with my boyfriend but he didn't think it was funny at all and I had to turn it off because he kept complaining and I felt silly for laughing because he kept looking at me as if to say, "Why the fuck do you think this is funny?"

I pretty much know the Holy Grail word for word, same with the Life of Brian but I still love them. I try to leave a while between seeing them though.
