Can anyone recommend to me some good leftist African novelists and novels or short stories?(novelists from central and south america would also be great) B. Traven-like novels preferably =).......

I don't think that I've ever read a book by an African. I would be highly interested in this request as well.

chinua achebe is a writer studied in school in Kenya things fall apart is a fantastic book imho

To my eternal shame, I too am ignorant of African novelists.
The only autochthonous African writers I could think of when the original post went up were Nkuame Nkruma and Franz Fannon. But, AFAIK, neither was a novelist, so I didn't say anything.
Now, African-American writers of fiction, that's a different story. Maybe (alibi alert!) my ignorance is caused by the lingering after-effect of my former national chauvinism.

I wouldn't call him a leftist but Nuruddin Farah is a great writer, his Blood in the Sun trilogy is great.
Sticking only to leftist writers of any continent is a huge mistake in my opinion. Some of my favorite books were written by reactionary authors. Don't deprive yourself of good literature just because you might have a political axe to grind with the person who wrote it.

Anyhoo, I have read all of Celine's novels(Death on the installment plan is one of my favorite novels) and Balzac is my favorite novelist.......
