I've not seen the movie, but the writer of the script aparently says that it's a different Che, with no connection whatsoever to Che Guevara.

I have never seen it but all I know is that the Peron's were the ones who started the whole downfall of Argentina. They showed them as if they were great people. Evita gave some kid a bike, whoop di doo. Look at what their social equality(socialistic) brought to Argentina. Argentina is doing terrible and it all started with the Peron's.

Yes Che’s appearance in Evita is symbolic. I personally think it was a very creative idea to use Che as the “storyteller” considering not only was he contemporary to the Perons but, that it is inkeeping with the character of Che to have him pop up in different scenes “odd-jobbing” which could be seen as an interpretation of his travel pursuits from his younger days. ..... And talking of his younger days, I think Antonio Banderas was a good choice to play the young Che (I also thought David Essex was a good choice to portray a bearded Che - but now I am showing my age!), especially when you look at those georgeous pictures of him in his book “Back on the Road”. My favourite pic is the one where he is sat on a rock laughing his head off. I wish I could find that pic on the internet as I would love to have it on my PC.
