View Full Version : Forklifts in the Spanish Civil War

Apparently there is a historical precedent for the use of forklifts in insurrections.
From Durruti in the Spanish Revolution by Abel Paz:
The Mountain Artillery forces that took off from the Docks soon encountered a big surprise. Using electric forklifts from the port, the workers made a gigantic barrier out of numerous huge balls of pressed paper.
I'm having a hard time imagining the balls of paper though.

You'd think fire could at least create a passage through the paper ball barrier.
This, though, is proof that no group has as much ingenuity as fucked over proletarians. Funny, they're making improvised weapons in Spain right now to combat the riot police.

This should be linked into the forkliftist tendency group.

nah, pressed paper is actually really fire proof, but i asume paz meant something more like this; http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_oIPVef6_1fw/TIq1tvYOScI/AAAAAAAACME/Xq8QzQXIEIU/s1600/pushing_paper_rolls.jpg
unless they made/recycled paper on site, than i guess it could actually be balls

Yhea rolls of paper makes more sense, lifted on ends they make a sturdy barrier and forklifts even then had attachments to lift and rotate rolls.

What is this forklift-fetish people here have?
Can't you people see that cows are the greatest weapon?

It is not the forklift in particular, the forklift (in this case) represents means of production deployed on the side of the works in class conflict (rather then means of production collecting dust while workers protest the capitalist class)

I don't even think the DotP can be made without cows, I mean, Didn't Stalin say:
"We Bolsheviks will see to it that every one of our collective farmers has a cow."
He saw the importance of cowas, and has never spoken a word on forklifts, and neither has Lenin.

Lenin pushed for the production a hundred thousand tractors and Stalin delivered on the demand and Mao really romanticized the tractor in his propaganda

And tractors are also means of production that mechanizes labor in a mobile form.

I think the article meant a bail of paper (like a bail of hay).
Also the forkliftist tendency must be really happy about this.

The Cowo-Tractorism tendency isn't!

Most industry uses rolls of papers which is why most forklifts manufactures also sell roll clamp modifications.

Also paper rolls make a much better barrier then bails of paper, as you only see paper in bails when your talking junk paper thus mostly air thus not as heavy for its size while paper rolls are paper right from the manufacture very little air for its size.

Well the OP is talking about forklifts during the spanish civil war so a bail to me seems likely especially so as the quote says balls of paper.
